Sim2 fairway?

Recommended Posts

  • 1 month later...

The battle begins tomorrow. As I posted several.weeks ago in this thread, on the launch monitor they are basically even. Every now and then I miss the 17m2 a touch left. My hope is the sim2 delofted one notch will keep that face open just enough to reduce the frequency of that slight miss...without bringing in a right miss.

Something on the launch monitors today that may be a benefit I was counting on with sim2...an extra gear. I decided to jump on one with it and got 9 yards more carry than normal.

Will get them both on turf tomorrow.

16.5 SIM2 Ti would be absolutely perfect.  I like cranking the SIM2 (and OG SIM) down a click to keep left side out of play; delofting a 16.5 would be PERFECT!

Just some food for thought....checking the spec stickers from tour issue SIM2 Ti fairways sold eBay suggests there is a possibility that on average, the Ti is often higher lofted than stamped. It is not the biggest sample size, but the number of standard and Rocket 3w heads thar measured 1-1.5* weaker was notable. That means you can either source out a tour issue 3w head with 16.5* of loft (I have seen a few) or demo some models at a local big box store until you find one that launches and spins higher, or at least within a window you want.

I’m having trouble finding a thorough review of the Max vs Ti. Is the Ti truly a better all around performer? Is the forgiveness of the Ti on par with the Max? TIA.

They are just very different clubs. Max is much bigger, shallower face.

Ti is smaller, deeper face. Adjustable.

The max is easier to hit but it's just big for a fairway.

Hey Lefty, I demo’d both so I’ll give you my opinion. I also did not see many reviews comparing the two, so the best option for me was to try both.

The Ti model was better for me because I have a shallow swing and tend to pick the ball off the fairway, so I found that I would hit the center of the face better with the smaller head. I also like the adjustable hosel on the Ti.

I did find that the Max was better off the tee because of the bigger face, which was more forgiving on slight mishits.

Ultimately, I preferred the look of the smaller Ti head as well as the confidence I have hitting it off the deck.

Given it is $100 more, I would recommend trying both to see if the difference is worth it to you. I previously owned the M6 3W by the way and the Ti has given me 10-15 more yards on my shots consistently.

For adding weight to this head; is it was simple as replacing the screw to a heavier one? I think I will need 2g more than standard(1/2 inch shorter and want it D4)

Maybe, but you need a special wrench. The Taylormade sole screws have a metal piece in the middle that will block a normal wrench.

Yes. I did that exact same thing. I used the aftermarket weight from billy bobs in mine.

Assume from there, it was just the SIM Fairway weight - they seem the same.

Also what weight was your head when it arrived? I might order a weight from there to set up when my club arrives next week.

Yeah I ordered the sim fairway weights and the barcode on the bag said they were m6 fairways weights.  Regardless of the name, they fit without issue.

I can’t recall the weight of the head… but that’s because I don’t recall if it’s a 3 or 6g. (I swapped weights on my udi as well and it was a different stock weight than what was in the fairways) I put a 9g weight in my 3 wood and got it up to 215g… so if the stock weight is a 3g my stock weight without adapter was 209.
