Maxfli Noodle vs Taylormade Noodle?

Granted I have not played seriously or followed golf closely, but I found these at my FIL's house. I thought Noodle was made by Taylormade. 

 

Is it the same ball?

Taylormade owned Maxfli when they came out with the Noodle.  When they sold Maxfli to DSG in 2008 they kept the Noodle.

That makes sense, so this sleeve is 12+ years old? That seems likely.

I loved the OG Noodles, so I thought I'd like the Taylor Made-branded ones, but I didn't.

Is it a different ball, really? That's weird that they would keep the name and change the ball.

Almost 20 as Taylormade kept the Maxfli brand around for a few years in the early 2000s before they sold the brand off to DSG.  Some great balls were made at that time like the A10 and the Black Max.

So it sounds like I should keep these. They were on a shelf at my FIL's house when we cleaned it out. He didn't golf, so not sure where he acquired them. But considering all the other hoarded items, it also isn't surprising.

Yeah.  They're still the same 2-piece design, but the cover feels different, and the core on the old Maxfli ones felt a little spongier under my thumbnail.  I'll see if I can dig up the pictures I took when I sliced them in half.

Crap, my old phone died back in September and took the pictures with it 😕

 

The matte one made by Taylor Made (like my avatar) seemed to be a monolithic cover, with the slightly translucent, dull sheen.  When slicedt with my PVC cutter, the cut surface of the cover was deeper green and really, really shiny.  The core was white with some different colored flecks throughout.  I had questionable results with the Taylor Made Noodle Neon though, once I upgraded my clubs to something made this century, documented here.

 

The shiny white one, from the Maxfli days, seemed to be a "normal" white painted cover - when I sliced that one open, the cut surfaces were a little dull. The core was a different color (reminded me of a Titelist DT So/Lo), and like I said, felt a little spongier under the fingernail.

Ok, so left/white is the old Maxfli ball and right/green is the Taylor Made property.  Still a two-piece design, but as mentioned above, the cores feel different when you put your fingernail into them.

Interesting. I wonder if there is a reason behind the change. Anybody know if the same factory is making them. Maybe a supply issue?

 

I was going to try the red Noodle and still might. But I have a TON of white balls to work through first. Thanks for the info.

The original Maxfli A10 ball was an excellent ball. Much better than the Revolution Solid. Still have a dozen of them somewhere in my house. Of course the A10 ball and name ended up being bastardized into cheap distance balls. Same as the Revolution name.
