What summer golf Hat do you wear?

Summer can be brutal to your head area, and skin cancer is becoming more common. Do you still only wear a traditional golf/baseball hat or do you opt for a hat that offers more sun protection?

For the real hot sunny days, what golf hat do you wear?

I’m only 5 months away from summer, it’s never too early to think of summer hat 😂

Since I live in norther California, summer is somewhat bearable, so just traditional golf hats for me; unless I play in Asia during the summer, then definitely something like what u have.

I wear the same wide brim Imperial or Ahead straw hat year around. If it's cold I put on ear muffs or a helmet liner. SPF 50 protection, and it breaths.

I use this Ahead hat except mine is white.   Found this one listed on ebay currently, bought mine at the Grand Nat'l pro-shop.

Fits great, breathes well, blocks sun, brim doesn't flop around.  Love it.

I’ve got a bunch of sun hats but my latest favorite is the Titleist Tour Aussie in white. I’ve also got the mesh in black from last year’s collection, but haven’t picked it up from my friend’s house yet.

All Caddyshack jokes aside, I just wear the same style hat year round (except when it's really cold and I wear a beanie). It's a basic baseball style hat. Between that and putting some sunscreen on my face I have no issues with the sun. Maybe I'll regret that in 20 years but for now I'm good.

 

I've never been able to play in a "bucket" style hat. Just doesn't feel right when I'm swinging.

That's funny. What else is a little strange is I was never really a Caddy Shack fan, just a bit too corny for my taste. I have watched it but only once fully through. When it's on I will watch 5 min or it or so, but then I have to turn it off because that type of comedy grates at me. It's sort of like Jim Carey comedy, I laugh a few jokes of his but can't take a lot of them. Just me.

     What else I find an interesting topic is golf hats, which are not really golf hats, but baseball hats. I'm sure there are subtle differences, but basically golf has made a baseball cap their golf cap. With that being said, it is sort of strange that when anybody wears something other then a baseball hat they seem to set themselves apart and are sometimes called out for it. At least for sun protection, I see a need for something other than a 'baseball' cap.

i usually wear bucket or boonie hats in the summer for the brim protection. I have golf specific ones but i like wearing the cheapies you can buy off of amazon as i'm going to sweat through them no matter what and  don't mind washing those or throwing them away after awhile. In fact, I'll often wear a regular mesh baseball cap to the course but I'll switch to the camo boonie i keep in my bag after the first few holes

I'm not sure any hat is considered to be a golf specific hat although I understand your point about being the "unusual" one for wearing something other than a baseball style hat. Golf is one of the odd sports that doesn't really have a specific uniform style (aside from the basic slacks/shorts and collared shirt).

With all the awareness of the damage the sun can do to a person's skin, skin cancer and so on, I don't know why people wouldn't be more proactive and wear a hat that protects them more. I know they can be a bit cumbersome, maybe a bit of a style challenge, but what is more important, thwarting skin cancer and sunburn, or being one of the herd who wears a baseball cap? A friend of mine wears a fedora style that I think looks quite stylish, and it protects him from the sun better than a cap. It can be done and remain stylish too.

Same reason most people don't wear UV sleeves in the summer.   If you don't like the way it looks, most won't wear it.  Except the resurgence of mom jeans.  It was horrible in the 80's, and it's even worse now, yet girls are clamoring to look like a goober.

 

Anyway, apply and re-apply good sunscreens.  Wearing a cap always helps, but I would say the sunscreen is every bit as important, probably way more so.

Imperial Geysir Bucket hat. I try not to ruin too many traditional hats by sweating through them. What I really like about the Geysir is that it will hold water without dripping so you can wet it before your round and it keeps your head cool without dripping in your face while you're trying to swing. Also very easy to wash when it gets sweaty and gross.

I wore a Henschel 10 point boonie.  Works well, fairly inexpensive.  Got a shelta for xmas and am looking fwd to trying that out.

I have one of the titleist aussie hats like that and I like it.  Get quite a few compliments on it too, though honestly, I am not sure if those are serious or making fun of me.  🙂  I don't really care either way.

Something similar to the hat you have but mine is a Field and Stream hat. At minimum always 30+ sunscreen and ball cap. 

 

Don't want my beautiful face to look like an old catcher's mitt or become deformed or die from something as preventable as skin cancer.

i have a ping boonie but i feel like i look stupid in it.  I think the brim is just a little too big and want to try other options.  I still wear it on occasion
