High spin high MOI irons. Do they exist?

P770 has really consistent spin numbers.  I’m a lower spin player and they are fine for me). Get them a little weaker and you should be fine.  I play blades and the p770s fit in well at the very top of the bag so I don’t have to play a hybrid.  TaylorMade nailed the mix between player/distance iron.

Give them a try.

Love the forgiveness but hate the low spin. Seems like all the newer more forgiving irons (apex cf, p790/770, jpx forged, i500 etc etc) are all distance rockets. Are there any larger and more forgiving heads that don’t have the hot face technology?

There’s a pretty lengthy thread about this already. One thing that popped out as I read through it was ordering Pings with their “retro” lofts.

The txg guys did an interesting video on this (p770 vs p790) and with the lofts equalized the heads had identical spin rates...both fairly low unfortunately

In terms of consistent spin, they are hard to beat.  Most people see the drops in spin as an issue as opposed to a well struck shot = low spinning irons.

If you are looking to create a lot more spin.  I would go for weaker lofts and a higher spin golf ball.  It is going to be tough to find a club head that does all the work for you just based off of build characteristics.

I did a fitting a couple weeks ago, and hit a bunch of shots with the p770.  We started with that head, and tried a whole bunch of shafts with it.  The spin numbers for me, were very consistent.  Consistently very low.

As a fairly high spinning player. I spun the p770 7 iron at around 6200 and a 46 descent angle. Thats about right where I wanted it, and it was the only club to do it. Only reason I say this, is relative to other clubs like the jpx 921 forged, the mp20 HMB, p790, and Callaway x forged, all of them spun much less, and had a lower descent angles, believe it or not. Way too many people look at spin w/o looking at descent angle. I would not call the p770 low spin clubs actually, I personally find them incredibly controllable. They are kinda in a field of their own right now and definitely worth a hit.

That’s golf.  Everyone is different.  At least they were consistent as I said.

Change to a ball with more spin like a Cut Blue or Bridgestone Tour B XS. Easier than hunting down new irons.

I wouldn't consider p770 a distance rocket.  It has distance but spin rate was plenty good enough for a 7 iron.  Also you should be looking at launch angle and more importantly descent angle.  If you've got an iron with a 48 degree descent angle and a spin of around 6000 for a 7 iron its hard to beat.

As someone that learned their lesson, go get a fitting.  Otherwise you're guessing and the clubs well be on BST in a month.  I hit everything from JPX921 Forged and tours, mp 20 mmc, t100, and p770.  For me the extra forgiveness of p770 combined with launch spin and descent was tough to beat.  It did require going thru many shafts too.

Just one more add, the jpx forged have more than enough spin.  Definitely give those a try.  I couldn't handle the thicker sole.

Again get fit, it's worth it.

Needed to add in a spin chart from daily golfer, very telling.20210105_172010.jpg.af9ea91c51ebde539bf9b74c11bef393.jpg
