Yes, which is why I posted a correction.

Do you think he's still getting paid on that initial deal?

He signed it in 2016 and it was estimated to be $10m per year around $100m total so my guess would be around a 8-12 year deal so I think he would be with Nike for at least another 4 years

Koepka, Paul Casey, and the rest of the Nike equipment players who went to a mixed bag did so because, as long as they didn’t sign a new equipment contract, Nike had to honor the contract and continue to pay them.  (And, if you ask me, many chose Mizuno because Mizuno was never really in the hunt to sign any of those guys - Mizuno doesn’t pay enough.  They weren’t about to give themselves away for free to the bigger brands who might sign them later.). Guys like Rory and Tiger, who quickly signed new deals, did so because they had the fame/influence/power/ability to sign another deal as good or better then their Nike deals. (Tiger may have taken a hit because of his play at the time, but his apparel contract with Nike more than covered that.)

Day doesn’t have that luxury - his contract with TaylorMade expired. No one is paying him (for clubs) now.  He may wait a short time, but I suspect he will sign with someone.  Even if it’s just a partial bag deal.  Prize money is good, but the real money is in endorsements.

Was this not the case for Rory and Tiger? They signed equipment deals, obviously. I think part of the reason Brooks doesn’t sign an equipment deal is because there’s generally pressure/play well in regular tour events, and Brooks seemingly has little interest in that, so it’s easier for him just to go with what he likes and what plays best for him. Again though, I’m kind of speculating on that.

Seen in the Tour report says he has Ping G425 Driver and Mizuno JPX921 Irons. Great moves IMO

What I'm most interested in is if he switches balls and to what.

I like his choice of irons! Justin Rose had a set of Mizuno irons made for him to test.

wonder what it would take in terms of $ for directed force to get him in a putter. is $ even a factor when it come to a putter.

Brooks, Casey, et al have had ample opportunity to sign with other hardware sponsors since Nike's exit from the equipment sphere.  They continue to play Mizuno irons because they like how they perform.

Not too bold of a prediction but I wouldn't be surprised to see him go without a club contract. I doubt he'll want to take the Spider out of the bag in particular and he'll get to experiment for the first time in years.

More than less likely, this is the route he'll take. The nike deal is the security blanket. Maybe he signs a 10 club deal for irons and wedges.

Would love to see him get back to that 2015 form, or even something where he's healthy. It's funny how finicky golf equipment is. All the irons can be built to the same offset, loft, lie, sw, etc but that look and feel may be slightly different and to some guys, that's the differences. The drivers could have the same loft, look, cg, same thing. Free agent can certainly work. Brooks and others have proved that. If he plays his best, not like he needs it at this point, but more money than he would have gotten from TM will come.

Listening to Slaying the Tiger, by Shane Ryan right now...incredible to hear the story of Day’s family and how they struggled with poverty throughout their lives. Powerful story in there about their family searching the local dump for toys, and that is where they found Jason’s first golf club, a 3-wood. Can’t help but be extremely happy for all of his success, and hearing him talk he seems like an awesome dude also! Hopefully he can get his game back on track and be a Top 5-10 guy again!

A connected buddy of mine got to play with him at Muirfield a couple years back.  Had nothing but the best things to say about jday and couldn’t have been a nicer guy, happy to give tips when asked and was just one of the guys.  Oh and shot an easy 67 that day

With recent struggles, maybe he even gets a 1-2 year "prove it" deal like other sports do and then signs long term with another company.  Sad to see him fall so far back, but health can be finicky.

that’s definitely possible. He’d probably play this year as a free agent and then depending on performance get a small deal. He may even just stay a free agent. who knows
