New PXG 0211 owner impressions - less distance?

Got my 0211's 2-3 weeks ago and have played 7-8 rounds with them.  I'm coming from Apex/Apex Pro 19 combo set with C Taper Lites and the 0211s are with Elevate Tours.

The biggest thing I've noticed so far is a significant loss of distance - I'd estimate 3/4 of a club.  Lofts are pretty similar - the Apex's are not jacked compared to the 0211's.  When I would have been comfortable hitting a 7 iron 155-160 in the California winter (high 50's), I'm struggling to hit the 0211 7 iron 150 in the air.  When I was fit, the Apex were about 3 yards longer than the PXG with a 7 iron, but I chalked that up to familiarity.

Another friend bought 0311P Gen 2 and he's also experiencing significant loss of distance.

If the PXG's are indeed that much shorter than the Apex, I'll have to return them and go back.  Maybe reshaft the Apex set in something a little more forgiving.  Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Are you hitting the PXG's higher than the Callaway's?  Might be spinning the Elevate Tours more than the C-Tapers.

I don't notice a height difference, although the PXG fitter did think the C Taper Lite was a bad fit for me and that I needed more spin.  And that the Elevates should spin more and launch higher.  I have hit the 7 irons on the range back to back and have not noticed a big change in flight.

I have not.  I came from a set of Hogan PTX's with pretty similar lofts.  I made a fairly significant shaft change (at least for me) from DG's to the Nippon's, and while I expected a higher ball flight, I've seen very little difference, and my distances are close, the 0211's probably go 2-3 yards farther in the air.

I'm thinking about returning these and losing (1) the 15% restocking fee; (2) shipping each direction, so about $200 damage on a $675 purchase.

Would having the irons bent 1-2 deg stronger potentially solve my problem?

I don't think my scores will improve if I am forced to hit 6 iron where I used to hit 7 or if my PW is now 117 yards instead of 125.

It sounds to me like it's the Elevate Tour shaft. You should see if you can hit both your Apex and new 0211s on a GC4 and check the spin numbers. I would guess the Elevate Tour are adding 400-500 rpm spin. Stupid question but... are you using the same ball to compare both?

At the local range, they are Callaway range balls.  On the course, I exclusively play Z-Star XVs.  And with the PXGs, I was coming up short over and over until I started adding a club.  The ball flight doesn't seem abnormally high.

I'm going back to the PXG fitter next week.  Last time, with me and two other friends who went at similar times, he was not forthcoming about showing you the numbers.  And he seemed more interested in making the sale than in finding the best fit.  So I'm not totally confident in my local fitter and feel like I'll need to micromanage the troubleshooting process.

Red flag

I agree.  He would stand in the back and see the monitor, but wouldn't tell you what's going on unless you specifically asked.  My two friends know less about this than I do.  One bought a bunch of clubs on impulse - he was so excited - and he's lost 20-30 yards with a Proto driver that is badly fit vs. his TM M4.  My other friend had a bad swing day and didn't buy, but felt pressured to buy a shaft upgrade on a set of irons.

The fit would have to be an absolute disaster to lose 30 yards with the proto.

My old driver carried 260. I can carry a driver from 40 years ago more than 230.

I can't really see that happening unless the guy plays an XS and they put him in a 43" ladies flex.

My friend plays the ball way out past his toe and hits very much "up" on the ball.  But the fitter convinced him to buy a 9 deg Proto X (the low spin one for people who hit down) vs. the Proto X+ for people with an upward angle of attack.  He's probably a 98mph guy and his ball just drops out of the sky.  Reminds me of what happened to me when I tried an Epic Subzero.  Just a horrible fit for him.  Also, he's not the kind who will play with the adjustability, so he may be playing at the lowest loft with the weights set for minimal spin.

Went back to the PXG fitter for a "spec check."  Hitting my Apex against the 0211's, the Apex on average flew further, the 0211s had less left-to-right variability, but more distance variability.  He also had me hit an 0211 with a C Taper Lite on it and for whatever reason, I couldn't hit it (swing was not feeling good).  The 0211/Elevate Tours peaked 5-7 feet higher and had about 500 rpm more backspin, both of which are desirable for me according to the fitter.  But the carry distance just is shorter.  So they have to go back or I pass my deal along to someone who wants them before the return window expires.
