My Entrance Into the Foray of a Custom Putter Build

Recommended Posts

You've basically putter ho'd with a purpose and direction. Even though you got the specs you needed from a fitting it didn't feel right. But sounds like you landed on the putter you've been after and hopefully it's exactly what you're looking for.

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to it.  It appears he will be starting the build sometime this week.  We've finalized just about everything.  DAVID FRISCH said that getting the head down to 330 grams should be easy since I have a flow neck and a smooth face.

You will love your Goodwood. I have 2 and my 3rd is on the way. David is super easy to work with and does a fantastic job. Can't wait to see your build pics.

This! I have two myself and gave my dad my third one! David is a great guy and very helpful. Insane product for $350 or so for a custom flat stick

Love the topline , and address pic.  Lot like mine.     In my opinion topline are way too wide most of the time.

Got the putter in the mail today.  The only 'complaint' is that it came in at 36" long instead of 35-1/2" long.  However, I have a special grip that I wanted to install on the putter, so I was going to take the Pingman grip off anyway.  I can just get a tube cutter and trim the shaft to the proper length tomorrow and get the grip installed.

The putter feels perfect. The combination of carbon steel, 330 gram head and a smooth face is just an incredible feel to it.  It appears a little longer from heel to toe than say a Scotty Cameron Newport.  But I'm very excited about how this turned out and can't wait to get the new grip on.

Very interesting - thanks for sharing.

The weight and milling discussion is candidly not that surprising.  I’ve moved my higher end stuff and am slowly building a collection of original MnBn Ansers and My Days.  head weight in the 310 range I believe, no sight line on flange, great swing dynamic, good sound/feel, etc.

I’d be happy to spend reasonable money for a new carbon My Day copy but haven’t found a custom shop yet that strays very far from Ansers and Anser 2s.

I made a batch of a MyDay version. It was called the Sunday. I’ll be doing some slight design changes and rereleasing it sometime around spring.

Looks great.  Please keep me posted as you approach final config.

Best thing to do is follow my Instagram or Facebook page. The sole will probably get rounded out a little more, and bring in the length some heel to toe.

Will do.  I have job related periods of intermittent internet challenges (but retain email connectivity).  Will send you a DM as that period approaches later this Spring.

FWIW, your proposed adjustments have increased my interest.  Only thing I would add were it mine to tweak is an ever so SLIGHT increase in the round over of the top rail along the sides and at the toe.  The thing that most attracts me to the MyDay/Sunday design is its curved flowing nature.  Helps settle me into a slightly arced stroke.

Very much appreciate you reaching out in this thread.  Thanks.

Here's some more pictures.

I was looking for a light grip that wasn't small.  I had considered the Salty cork grip, but they were out of the size that I wanted (30 grams) for the foreseeable future with COVID hurting the supply chain.

I then saw a company called Bobby Duke (not Grace) that had a 32 gram grip.  But they went out of business and liquidated their entire stock.

That led me to Sacks Parente.

I tried to purchase this grip thru the Web site, but Sacks Parente would not allow me to do it because they were afraid I would take the grip and violate their patent on the grip.  While it's a nice thought, the world of golf equipment is built around people copying ideas...so they lost a potential customer who got their grip anyway thru somebody else.

The Sacks Parente grip is really a midsize grip and weighs in at 36 grams. This is a nice compliment to the 330 gram head and the 116 gram Apollo Stepped shaft.  In total, that's only 482 grams static weight.  When I put the putter on my MOI Auditor it came out to 2,865 kg-cm^2.   Usually the 'normal' putters come in at a around 2,880 to 2,910.

This putter feels like a million dollars and still feels really good on toe hits.  It just feels so much easier to swing the putter and the ball comes off the putter face nicely instead of having to hammer it with a softened head.

And the putter doesn't feel light at all.  It feels like that perfect weight and balance I had with my Wilson 8802 when I was a junior golfer.

I can't recommend GoodWood (David) enough.  This was a simple process at a very fair price.  The communication was good without me having to badger him and it took 7 weeks to get the putter and that occurred during the holidays.

If I wasn't so insistent on sticking with 1 putter to become the best putter I can be...I'd certainly look to get other models from David.
