Has the Golf Channel and PGA Tour radio become unwatchable/unlistenable? (NO POLITICS)

NBCsn is going away by end of this year, and The GC is terrible.  What's the best streaming service for live golf?

No one wants to listen to the "woke" BS they're pushing with their race or social justice narrative. ESPN already found that out, yet they still do it as well. People use sports to to escape every day life. When people can't even use sports for that, they walk away and find something different. Golf Channel was the one sports network that didn't push that s***, but I guess that's changed. So they now have a recurring segment pushing guilt onto people? This is what communist countries do. We're a couple years away from that.

Y'all do know you can flip the channel at anytime. 
 

I mute the TV and listen to vinyl for US golf coverage. So there's that option too.

 

It's really telling what angers a person.

This is a big difference between wanting something off the air(like a particular song or show that has a viewpoint one may not want to be out there), and telling a network you willingly want to watch that they are driving you away. 

 

Angers?  I guess we've reached a point that not saying *everything is great*, "sunishine rainbows and lollipops" means a person is angry.   I see disappointment that a once very good or great channel has let itself be hollowed out and turned into almost anything else you can watch on TV.  

 

This is people giving a chance for the network to keep viewers, because the next step *is* changing the channel.  Either they will learn that they need to shift to stay in business, or this is part of the big plan and it's working.

Not sure if it's been said earlier in this thread but The Golf Channel is something we pay to watch.  It's not free OTA.  If I'm not happy with a product or service I paid for then I'll complain and eventually find a replacement if it doesn't improve.  Sounds like I'm not the only paying customer that's not happy.

I've had PGA Tour Live since about the beginning.  The concept is great but I keep hoping their execution will get better.  I'm one of those guys that will bet on anything so the first thing I do on a Thursday morning is see who is playing in the featured groups and make a couple bets.  I also think watching two groups play every shot and play the course from 1-18 is very insightful for a scratch golfer but some of the commentators leave a lot to be desired and they don't get any prime time groups on Saturday and Sunday but that coverage does show signs of hope...

Was just making a comment on people getting angry. To be honest I haven’t even watched GC except for tournaments for awhile it’s so terrible now and nothing to do with an “agenda” there just nothing good on it

LOL - just announced NBC will be having a special betting program during the event you can watch live on their premium whatever channel, so that explains the betting segments every week.

They might be doing more of that now, but that’s not why the channel is struggling and that’s not what brought on the move to Connecticut and cutting their staff

They're not going off the rails. They're joining the other network channels on the low road. No one wants this and they're pushing it onto people.

 

If you think what they are doing is wrong, you should see the alarming stuff they're now 'teaching' in schools.

Sort of a sign of the times that NBC takes the $500 million from its betting partner/promoter but has to move GC studio to Connecticut and trim the "fat". 

 

NBC ---- National Betting Consortium, No Bets Censored, Nannies Betting Children, and speaking of Connecticut - Now Brandel's Cold!

 

Also has a future option to buy a 25% stake in the gambling business -- now that's a scary prospect on many levels for alleged "network" broadcasting whether sports or news.  I'm sure there's something by Orwell around here I can relate this to.

Haven't tuned into the Golf Channel in quite some time with the exception of Ferrity which I understand is finished.  There just isn't anything new for TGC to broadcast.  It all became stale.  These days I get my golf content on YouTube.  Great instructional channels and golf travel vlogs.  Face it folks, the days of network "television" are over.

I rarely watch GC but Gravy and the Sleeze are worth my Sirius subscription by themselves on PGA Tour radio.

Agreed. Golf Channel knows this which is why they aren't producing anything but live golf and pre and postgame golf. Podcasts, youtube, and SiriusXM all have much better programming.

Welcome to 1984. The Golf Channel is just another network that has fallen to today's "culture". What's fascinating is following all of the data illustrating people continuing to walk away from all of these networks pushing agendas. The people have spoken (and continue to do so) yet these networks and companies have dug their feet in on pushing an agenda that doesn't exist like they think. They are betting on themselves being right when they continue to push away the majority. The tide will eventually shift because the growing majority will be too massive. How much damage will be done in the meantime is the question.

 

As others have stated, golf, and sports as a whole, are an escape from life's problems. Content from Taylormade's and EuroTour's YouTube channel would be amazing. Seeing the players unscripted in their environment doing what they do best would be a great programming idea for TGC.

Definitely for some time, funny thing is, growing up we got 4 channels until we moved to a bigger town that had cable.  Now with a hundred or more at my disposal I pretty much only watch 4 channels!

I don't even watch that anymore.  I have not cut the cord yet but its coming real soon.  The only person in my house now that watches cable television is my oldest son who watches live sports.  Everything else in my household is either YouTube or Netflix.  The golf channel is far inferior to the golf content available on YouTube.  Its just not even close.  Network television as we've all known it is finished.

Yes....the content that the likes of Rick Shiels, Peter Finch, Alex Etches, etc provide is so much better than what is available to us on GC.  If I want some tips on, say, hitting from a sidehill lie with a long iron....it's only a few keystrokes away.

 

The downfall of GC is a microcosm of network television writ large.....with streaming services, we can watch pretty much what we want when we want. The networks have been slow to adapt.
