Patrick Reed no longer with Nike?

Surely Titleist did not pick up his contract.

That would make sense but wasn’t he wearing a Gfore hat in practice rounds earlier this week?

Was the deal just signed? Just a ball deal? Do you only have to wear your contract hat during tournament rounds?

I can’t see why any clothing company would pay a guy who looks like Reed to wear their clothes.

I get it. He is not going to flatter your brand like Adam Scott...

But, let's be honest, he is built like 20% of golfers? In this world of Extra skinny smmedium jeans, Reed looking in a good in a start up brand would let the public know they fit all shapes of golfers.

Market him as the love child of Charles Barkley and John Daly.

I remember reading somewhere that most golf apparel contracts require touring pros to wear their gear anytime they are on grounds for a tournament, including practice rounds.

Jonathan Wall says the deal is a ball deal only, hat was his choice to wear

All of you must have missed this article on the main page yesterday: https://www.golfwrx.com/643742/sentry-toc-tour-truck-report-new-sticks-new-companies-and-patrick-reed-buys-his-own-threads/

The P Reed sections was:

On the fashion front, Patrick Reed who parted ways with Nike at the end of 2020, showed up in head-to-toe G/Fore apparel. The coolest part about the story is that Reed was such a fan of the brand that instead of signing a deal or expecting it for free, the 2018 Masters Champion went online and put all of his gear on the old AmEx like everyone else. According to my source, he’s loved G/Fore clothing for a long time and insisted that he get it like everyone else. Well done, PR.

This is what a representative from Team G/Fore had to say: “We are happy anytime we hear someone is enjoying our products and though Patrick is not on our roster for 2021, we are glad to learn he enjoys our gear!”

I dont know why you'd wear any logos if you don't have a contract, especially caps or shirts, where they're so prominent on TV and where un-logoed alternatives are available.

Why give a company free advertising (especially if you're PReed!)? I suppose if you're a big fan, but...

How many people on this thread actually take off the dealer sticker/plate covers on their car after purchasing it? I do, they don't pay me, it's free advertising for them. However if they wanted negotiate it into our deal, my ears are always open. So before people ask the why Patrick did this question, go look at your car.

Dude, we aren't pro golfers on TV 30 weeks a year. You're trying to tell me that Patrick Reed loved that black hat's fit and feel and look and price SOOOOOOO much he bought it and wore it in a pro sporting event regardless of the logo?

All winter he didn't have time to grab some no-logo gear or make a Prime order on Amazon until he signs a deal with some company?

[Yes, I remove any stickers and the tacky license plate holder from my cars...]

Yes. That is literally what the article says. He liked the gear so much that he bought it on his own. Did you not read it?

No. It was not loaded when I replied. Good for him. and a good pairing: G-Fore founder looking for shortcuts for his kids to get into college (and went to prison for it) and PReed who likes shortcuts on the golf course.

If this is true, in theory, could Tiger wear an Adidas hoodie at a Stanford game? Or wherever else he goes that isn’t at a tourney?

I have University of Michigan season tickets (laugh it up all) and a few years ago Tom Brady was the honorary captain for one the games. This was after Michigan had signed with Nike/Jordan. When Tom walked onto the field he was wearing an unbranded Michigan pullover as he was an Under Armour guy at the time so he obviously didn't want to be walking around sporting Nike or Jordan (not that it makes a difference because Nike is on his jersey every time he takes the field). No clue if this was a personal decision by him or mandated as part of the contract though. Just an example that would apply to what you're saying.

As for Tiger, Stanford is a Nike school anyways so not really a big deal for him there. All the big sports outside of hockey are Nike now so for a Nike sponsored guy he isn't going to have too many issues with not breaching his contract anyways. And with the amount of free stuff Nike would give him I doubt he's going to bother reaching out to Adidas, or anyone else, for a sweater. And he certainly isn't going to pay for anything when Nike will send him literally anything he wants.

Yeah this is all fair. I guess Tiger isn’t the best example. Maybe if Brooks wanted to wear a pair of Yeezys or something, could he?

Probably not to the course for a tournament or some sort of golf related event, but on his personal time I'm sure he can wear whatever he wants.

I seriously doubt Nike has a clause in his contract saying he is only allowed to wear Nike branded products 24/7/365. That would be a bit ridiculous.

I know that’s how it works with a lot of other sports. LeBron can’t wear Adidas off the court.

Maybe, but I think you're reading a bit too far into it.

I seriously doubt Nike would throw away the tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars worth of revenue Lebron's name brings just because someone snapped a pic of him wearing a pair of ultra boosts while eating dinner at his house.

When I was in college, a friend wore a different shoe during a basketball game, and the company who sponsored the college completely dropped their contract. Another company had to come in and basically re-sponsor ALL sports.

I would think thats a similar case to the pros contracts, as they are basically like one-man institutions.
