Firm Feeling Higher Spin Recommendations

Recommended Posts

This probably is a unicorn. I’m looking for a ball that feels firm off the putter but spins well around the greens.

Is it ProV1x? Was playing the AVX last year but it doesn’t spin enough around the green. Otherwise it is a great ball.

Other balls I’ve used...

Callaway Chrome Soft X - a bit too firm and does not spin enough. I did not use the 2020 version.

ProV1 - excellent spin, don’t like the flight as much as the AVX, feels dead off the putter.

ProV1x - better off the putter, decent spin, flies super high. - probably the best choice here.

Others....

Thanks in advance

Snell MTB-X. Performs and feels pretty much exactly like a ProV1X and costs a lot less.

You mentioned it in your original post,   The Left Dash Titleist healed all I was hoping for regarding my similar desired ball characteristics you’ve laid out.

I second this. MTB-X is as firm as it gets but still very spinny.

I play LD. It’s the best current ball out for me. I think it’s fantastic, but if you’re looking for a higher spin ball I wouldn’t recommend this one. It spins a touch more than the AVX for me.

Sounds like a better match. I play a course with small greens and have short game shots to tucked pins. Does it fly lower on long game shots?

Same high flight as the regular X, so higher than the V and considerably higher than AVX.

Either TM TP5 or my favorite Bridgestone Tour B XS. Srixon Z Star is worth a look also. All 3 are great for spin

but if you think the chrome soft x is too firm then thats a tough one bc chrome soft x is the lowest compression/ least firm premium "x" ball compared to something like tp5x, B X, ProV 1x

The ball that you’re looking for is the Bridgestone BX, the 2020 version.  Firmer feel on full shots, pretty good spin around the greens and ball flight is excellent in the wind.  Just an all-around fantastic ball.  Don’t let the swingspeed guide of only for +105mph swings deter you.

This is a ball that all swingspeeds can use.  The only negative would be not the greatest durability but what urethane ball is really awesome durability-wise? None.

Bridgestone BX. Do it.

The MTB-X is my current gamer and flat out performs without breaking the bank.  Not the firmest ball out there, but not a marshmallow either.  Plenty of green side spin as well.  A bit clicky off the putter face, but most golfers including myself don't seem to care much about that.

You can probably tell from the responses that you've already gotten that a firm ball that spins well is far from a unicorn.  There are plenty of them; you just have to decide how much you want to spend.

I enjoy a firm ball (especially off the putter).  Settled on the Prov1x this year - love it.  Snell MTB-x is so close...I use this ball at times as well.

Did a test last year with Bridgestone Tour BX and TaylorMade TP5x - both of these were about the same performance wise  for me (with a slight preference for Prov1x)...but dollar for dollar, decided on Prov1x.  In order:

I got a promo box of TP5 balls and gave 1 sleeve to my father and the other two as xmas gifts to my weekend group so I had one sleeve left to try.  The feel was great off driver and putter.  However, I noticed a lot of side spin.  I was hitting strong draws/hooks off the tee.  Anyone notice increased side spin?  The TP5x is ok and considerably less spinny compared to the TP5 IMO.
