Help with iBlades

I can’t seem to sell them so I might as well play them.

I was comparing some irons side by side yesterday using a Snell MTB-Black and a new ProV1. I settled on the ProV1 for testing.

10 shot averages with each

iBlade 7 iron with DG 105 S300

Callaway CB with PX IO 6.0

MP 20 with Modus 105 stiff

iBlade: carry 154 yards, 21.7* launch, 7200 spin

Callaway: 153 yards, 21.6* launch, 6900 spin, 157 yards, 20.9* launch, 6800 spin

In terms of distance, accuracy and overall it chose the MP20 for all three.

I also hit my iBlade 5 iron for 5 shots and distance was 171 yards, launch was around 18* and spin was 6500.

I’m not ruling out a swing imperfection (because I am working on some things) but the fact that I did better with the MP20 leads me to think it is a shaft issue.

Is the iBlade just a spinnier head by nature? I have a Modus 105 shaft I could stick in the 7 iron to try but to do the whole set will run me close to $500. I could get a new set of 20’s for $800.

I'm not positive but loft for loft I think the iblade may be weaker so that could contribute to the spin?

Do shaft fitting results carry over from one head to another? Meaning if they work in the MP20 will I see similar results in the iBlades?

I don't know if i want to abandon the iBlades so quickly. They only have 4 rounds on them.

Shafts = $186

PURE grips = $26

CTP adjustment (if necessary) = $83

Total: $295

Yes it’s pretty common that once an iron shaft works for you it should work in multiple heads. Unlike driver heads that can fluctuate in weight and cause different shafts to work with different heads. Other than some Miura heads than can weigh quite a bit more than the majority of most iron heads, I think you should be fine.

So I'm pretty sure my swing is at fault. I went back tonight and hit my clubs against some of the competition.

iBlade 7 iron: launch 19.4* and spin 6255, total distance 160 yards.

iBlade 5 iron: launch 18.5* and spin 6353, total distance 172 yards.

No matter what I did, I could not bring down the launch and spin with the 5 iron. I bent the loft 2* strong on the 5 & 7 irons. Maybe it's time for a 5 hybrid? I figure I am a full club off from where I should be. 7 iron - 160, 6 iron - 172, 5 iron - 184...

Is every 1* of loft = to 3 yards?

Keep in mind all of this is being done with an elbow that is being surgically repaired tomorrow.

Why are you doing any of this prior to an injury recovery? Unless it's to take your mind off things, it seems… premature?

The problem with just bending them down is you have to consider the landing angle. Otherwise, it's not really doing what an iron should do, right?

Consider that you have the 7-iron dead on. That's great. Now consider an i210 6-iron. See what happens there. Then maybe a 410 5-iron if you need an iron.

But get better, and be prepared to start fresh with your club data post-surgery. Best wishes.

Just wait until you’re healed and can work on your swing. Likely flipping. It’s most certainly the Indian in this case.

Tourney on 4/25. I've got my goal, now to get there! I don't think I will swing slower or faster, just pain free. I did a lot of testing pre-op so I could have a plan during recovery. Keep what I have or start over...

Also, if it comes back exactly the same, drop the 6i, play the 5i in its place, then go 5h. 😉

What did you put in at the top of the bag?

 The 1st thought was i200 so I tried a friend's and wasn't really sold.

I had some extra shop credit so experimented with titleist t200's with the t200 6-7 irons being my 5-6 irons (thanks jacked lofts) . So far so good. I have a low ball flight, so I think I like the higher trajectory in the long irons.

But it does make for a weird set up (2 brands and 2 7 irons)
