Help me finalize my bag!

Hey WRXers!

After doing countless hours of research, I'm more torn than ever how to complete my bag.

I just got fitted into a combo set of p790s (4-6) & p770s (7-P). The entire set has Modus 105S and is bent 2 degrees up. Lofts follow the TM recommendations so I'm playing off of the 770 lofts. I'm coming from the M4s so it's a huge step up. With the M4s I was able to drop my index from an 18 to a 12.4 in the span of a year, but I was starting to notice limitations with them.

Anyways, long story short, I'm stuck deciding how to fill the gap between my PW and my existing wedge setup (TM MG1 54 & 58). At first I was just going to grab a 50 degree MG2, but now I'm leaning more towards the p770 AW. The loft of my PW is standard at 46 degrees and the stock AW is at 51. I'm not opposed to having it bent 1 weak, but then does it make sense to go 46-50-54-58?

Am I better off with a more forgiving AW in the 770 or with something more precise in the MG2?! Should I drop a wedge entirely and go for 46-52-58 to open up a spot at the top of the bag?! The eternal questions - help me out!

I think the general advice you'll get is if you are only using it for full-ish swings then stay in the iron set rather than specialty for whatever added forgiveness there may be; plus the shaft will stay consistent.  Once you start getting to specialty shots then I'd consider going specialty wedge.  Mine is 52* and that does 90% of my stuff inside 120 while saving my 56* for bunkers, crap lies, etc.  If you have too many wedges then you might have a decision complex.  I'd go with the AW and bend it down 1 degree if needed for gapping if you won't use it much green-side.

Thanks for the input. That's pretty much what I've been thinking. My 54 and 58 handle everything inside 110 yds for me and I've never used my past AWs around the greens at all.

Same advice I gave someone in another thread.

Also, before you bend AW, hit some shots with 46, 51 and M2 54. Find out what the real distance gaps are before bending. If the 51* has a hotter face than the M2/54, you may not need to bend at all.

Agree 100%. If you use your 54 and 58 for everything 110 and in, there's no reason for you to have a specialty wedge for your AW when you'd just use it for full swings anyway.
The hot take on testing real distance gaps between the PW, AW, and the 54 before doing any bending is definitely the way to go.
it's also worth noting that the loft gaps for what you're working with from 4-AW go 3,3.5,4,4,4.5,4.5, then 5 from the P-Aw. so if you're obsessive with numbers like me, I wouldn't go all the way to 50, because then you'd have a 4* gap when the previous 2 gaps were 4.5*.

I personally think that the 51* P770 AW will be the perfect solution already, without needing to be bent. even if the gap between the AW and the 54 is smaller, that's better than it being smaller from PW to AW on your full swings. the 54 is supposed to do more than just full swings where the AW is not, so the gap between the AW and 54 can be blurred more than the gap between the PW and the AW, where full swing is the main choice.

Very solid point about the AW in the 770 being hotter than the MG, didn't even cross my mind! Obviously it's much easier to just order it already bent to spec, but not the end of the world to have it done after either.

I'm definitely obsessive about with the numbers, but only about my carry numbers, couldn't care less what it says on the bottom of the club. Regardless, here are the lofts of my entire set just so we're 100% on the same page:

790 4: 22*

790 5: 25*

790 6: 28.5*

770 7: 32.5*

770 8: 37*

770 9: 41.5*

770 PW: 46*

770 AW: TBD

MG1: 54

MG1: 58

So I guess it's going to be a toss-up between leaving it at 51*, or weakening by .5* or 1* once I can get on the course with it and see my true carry distances, but seems like we're all in agreement that the 770 is the way to go over the MG2.

hmmm. you said that you had the P790's bent to P770 lofts, but the P770 lofts I see on TM's website say everything from 4-7 you have is .5* strong.

if you're that obsessive about carry numbers, then you absolutely should try and only have to bend it one time after testing, instead of ordering it bent and running the risk of needing to bend it again. bending metal more than once will always make it weaker, even if it's only marginally.
