PXG Equipment 2021

Figured I'd start a central thread to discuss the new and future offerings for PXG this year.

https://www.pxg.com/en-us/clubs/0211-collection

I definitely want to give the 0211 Fairways a try, the price is right and forgiving is always my choice in a fairway. Hoping some of the big names review the new line soon!

0211 irons look great as well, but I'm probably sticking with my Gen 3 irons for now.

Well I won't be selling my Gen 3's but those irons are really sharp!!

The PXG 0211 are the same lofts and lengths as the 0311 XP iron.

They are cast, have no back milling nor impact generator, but do contain dual core.

Couple of vides are starting to trickle out. I'm most interested in the fairway woods, but seems some people are starting to get the equipment in hand.

Curious if the blade size on the 0211's has changed any?  The remark I remember most is that is was long.

The average golfer on YouTube said it was shorter heel to toe than the old Gen.  for what it’s worth.

That would be an improvement. Short irons in first version looked fine to me but the middle irons blade lengths were noticeably long. I bought a 6 iron to test and the blade length did not suit me. They look great.

  • 3 weeks later...

I had a 0211 fairway on order, but they lowered the price in the intervening 2 weeks since it's been on order, so I cancelled.

Kind of getting annoying with the constant price drops/changes.

I think they'll give you a price adjustment if you reach out to them, but it may only be in the form of store credit.

From what I read it is store credit. I ordered my 0211 driver at the $295 price. When it was lowered to $279 I wasn’t concerned about the $16 store credit but now that it is $249, I will call tomorrow and see if I can get the $46 credit. I could use a 0211 fairway or hybrid or more weights or even some pxg hats!

Definitely do it! I really do love my PXG irons and driver, but the price shenanigans have really turned me off lately. There's no reason why there should be 2+ price changes within the first month of a product release.

I had the Gen2 P's last year for about 2 months and wasn't wowed by them. To be fair the T's would have probably been a better fit. I also had the Proto X driver and it was the longest driver I had ever hit but I wanted something with a little bigger profile at address for some confidence when my swing isn't great.  Also had a Gen1 Gunboat and a Gen2 Lucky D putter for a bit.

I'm actually thinking about the 0311 forged wedge. I have been contemplating the Zip code wedges for this year but at the price for the pxg it may be hard to resist.

Pretty easy decision to pick the zip core when you only have 1 bounce option with the pxg. Not to mention the many more shaft options you have with srixon. It’s a no brainer to get the zip cores when they will also out perform the pxg 0311 wedges.

While this may be true for you, that may not be the case for me.  There is also only 1 grind option in the 50* wedge of the zipcore and I have wedge shafts already to use.

It is a fact that there are no real bounce or grind options with the 0311 wedges, but I can vouch that they are fantastic wedges.  I have the originals, and the current ones.  Both excellent, and do everything I would want in a wedge, whether chips, pitches, bunker shots, etc.

I’ve done the grind thing with Vokeys, Callaways, etc., and that did not make my wedge game any better.  The PXG’s have.  YMMV.

Are the 0211 fairways or hybrids any good? Seem like a bit of cobra tech in them.

I have the 0211 3 wood and 19*, both with riptide shafts. They are similar to the Cobra F9 3 wood and 19* that I replaced them with.

The biggest difference is that I use everything 2 degrees flat. PXG has the flat setting on the shaft.... amazing... I hit them much straighter because you can adjust the lie angle without affecting the loft.

Also is the tech in the gen3s really that legit over the other gens?

For me the feel was improved in Gen 3 over Gen 2, which were a little clickier.

When Gen 3 was like $400 I would say it wasn't worth the upgrade. But now they're down to $199 an iron vs. $129 for Gen 2, so I'd say if you have the money, I do like Gen 3 better. Gen 3 seems to blend the best of Gen 1 (feel) and Gen 2 (distance, forgiveness).

I really have no idea what the strategy behind changing their prices every other week is, though. The 0211 line was announced 1/7, and the fairways alone have undergone 2 price drops in 3 weeks.

It’s interesting to me everyone jumping on the new stuff and asking about the gen 4 irons. They just came out with  gen 3 irons a year ago and thre is already a replacement.

Like if the original allure was the spare no expense, don’t release something until it’s markedly better than the last iteration, premium tech and premium materials at a premium price..doesn’t all of this feel a bit disingenuous?

PXG lowered the price on Gen3 irons by $50 down to $199 just after I bought a new set. I emailed them and they gave me a credit which I just used on a Proto driver.

They said it was part of the 30 day guarantee.

So the price variation is annoying, but hats off to them for making good.

Dave

Completely agree their pricing is wild. . . then again as you say we're here talking about it . . . and it has me spending WAY too much time on PXG.com and PXG Express.
