Project X I/O Iron Shaft

As a longtime player of PXi, turns out after all these years I found out the PXi 6.0 plays a little soft to flex.  I never bothered getting the freq on a PXi because it worked.  When I read about the IOs I was pretty excited to finally have a shot at a PXi replacement.  I ordered IO 6.0s and they have a much heavier feel to them vs PXi and not as lively a tip.  Perhaps they actually play truer to flex and a 6.0 is more like your normal PX 6.0?

They were disappointing given my goal and so what did I switch to? Modus3 105S; much better feel vs the IO.

Too bad... they sure look good.

Very useful and much appreciated feedback

interesting .....I play the 105-x right now after playing the 105-s.....am considering the IO 6.5's.....now wondering how 'heavy' they may feel.......

Played the Pxi 6.0 long time. Which is a good shaft but moved on.

I loved the Pxi in the long irons. Less in the shorter.

Since a couple of weeks I am testing with a Px io 6.0 in #6

IO is a more direct feel (and less muted) if I recall well.

I like the shaft a lot. Compared to the KBS $taper lite (also 110g) I tend to prefer The px io 6.0. Doing more tests this week.

The current reference is the KBS Tour V S.

During the latest TXG live episode, Ian mentioned their their club builder Mike had installed the IOs and then quickly moved away from them because he didn't like the feel.

This is one person's subjective experience of course, but it's interesting nonetheless.

IMO it's hard to beat the Modus for feel, or indeed some graphite options.

I don't work at True Temper, but as an outsider, as a customer, it's hard for me to understand what these people are thinking.  You have a proven product in the PXi, and you discontinue it??? Why?

Let's be honest here, the IO is generally speaking not a product for tour use, so where is the data that shows this is going to work out for low-mid handicappers?  I guess I can say that about a ton of shaft these days - force feeding an idea on golfers rather than stick with what's known.

Certainly it's a lot cheaper/easier to market a known quantity, but here goes all these companies trying to convince us fairy dust is the answer.

I'm calling b.s. on True Temper until proven otherwise.  The sales reps got together with Callaway (biggest buyer of IO shafts to date) and in exchange for low price point for Callaway, TT got a customer and a story.  What did the golfer get? New graphics and dog sht.

  • 2 weeks later...

I feel like converting to the IO.

The feel is good and the shaft is very playable. Shot pattern  is quite accurate.

In comparison to the kbs tour v; the apex is slightly lower.

These are tiny differences but it is nice to shift to something new.

Als tried to push the shaft to my limits.

chs upto 94mph did not affect ball flight (at least not caused by the shaft) I think my optimum speed for with this club is around 90-92 mph and ballspeed anywhere between 112-116 mph.

Shot pattern fade/draw. All measured indoors

Good feedback.

Does it feel boardy?
