Is timing too often overlooked?

I might fit into the group Monte is talking about.  I actually get more out of the video with the sound off.  The main difference to me between the pro & am is where the hips are at.  Watch the position of the hips on each series.  Where the position of the hips are at will dictate where the shoulders, elbows, wrist & hands are. The pros swing gets each body part in the position where they are the most effective.  With the way the am uses the hips, it keeps everything else out of the best effective sequence.

Go back to what we were coached in 7th & 8th grade football/basketball.  Always watch the hips, they can't go anywhere without them.  Another example would be tia chi, the entire base is the hips, the body's center.  So in relation to the hips and timing, just visualize how the swings would look if timing of lower, middle & upper body parts were not going at the right time.

Yep.  Martial arts in general focuses on hips especially for power.  Same can be said about most sports.  Power comes from the hips especially for ballistic movements such as the golf, hockey, and baseball swing.  Proper sequencing of hips is also very important as well as you mentioned.

Just remember Shakira's wise words, "Hips don't lie".

My teammates (in other sports) would always shake their heads but I really believe this, and this thread is reinforcing my view point.

When it comes to golfers nothing has been overlooked.... I mean look where you are for Pete's sake

It's just we're all at different places, but the thing is you're never too good to one day having to go back to basics or fundamentals.... that's why its a beautiful sport

Can't figure how to like my own posts

I think its easy to look at the p system and prescribe a change in mechanics, but equally as important is when to do the thing, and the "when" is often so counterintuitive that most could never figure it out on their own.

The mechanics help put us in a functional spot to deliver the club the way we want, but the glue is in the sequence, rhythm and tempo. Having the correct perception of the timing of that sequence, and then doing it repeatedly is the key to good golf. The hard part is that our perception changes over time and I believe that is one of the reasons we have periods of up and down, despite the fact that our swings (mechanically) don't usually change a ton.

If you look at a pros swing where they pipe a drive perfectly, compared to a swing where they block it into the rough, you will likely not see a big difference in the swings on 2d video. You will hear things like "I got quick," which is a possibility. Another way to say it might be that the sequence or rhythm was off a tiny bit.
