I already game Mizuno MP20’s, so actually all I need to do is buy a 2 degree stronger 9 iron and a 1.5 degree stronger 6 iron and the set is complete!

Just need to adjust the shaft length slightly longer too and I should be good.

just have the lofts bent.  2 degrees is fine.

Hi people, need some advice and suggestions.

I’m keen to build a second Sunday bag setup with 10 clubs max. The top of the bag will be driver and 2 iron (the 2 iron could be replaced with a 3 wood or 5 wood or dropped to reduce number of clubs depending on course), with the bottom of the bag being 58 degree lob, 52 degree gap wedges and a putter.

Which means there are 5 clubs which needs to fill the middle. Probably makes sense to have a PW at a more traditional 46 degrees giving a constant 6 degree change through the wedges, but what happens after that?

Also, I’ve got the option of either ordering custom new irons to fit the middle of the bag, but can odd irons be ordered?

I plan to go full time with the reduced 10 club set and then use my main 14 club setup if I’m using a cart or a comp.

Thanks all

Mikee, I am going to look at this a different way. First, how far do you hit your driver on avg? How for for your 58° wedge or what club do you hit from 125 or 100 yards in? What is your handicap? Where do you loose strokes? Off tee, long irons, approach, pitch/chip or putting? As an example, If strokes lost on approach from 200 yds out, then maybe not the need for a consistent degree gap between clubs, but ensure you have the right club option. Maybe you go 50° gw if you have the ability to open it up, deloft or vary the swing length to have a 40 yd variance depending on the set up and swing. Which club you pull from your bag for any given shot (other than putter) is not just dependent on avg distance for a particular club, but also how you have to hit it (under tree, over tree, over water to front pin, over 100 yards of swamp, tall grass, etc.) You've already received a lot of good recommendations/options, so enjoy whatever you decide for your bag make up.

Ok... need some more help.

To satisfy this 10 club project I'm going to buy a '9.5 iron' and '6.5 iron' to add to my 4-PW set of MP20's.

The loft of the 9.5iron will be 40 degrees splitting the 9iron (42 degrees) and 8iron (38 degrees) in the middle. Same with the 6.5iron.

Now... am i better to buy a 9 iron with 2 degrees stronger loft OR buy a 8iron with 2 degrees weaker loft to create the 9.5 iron?

thanks all

You could also try the 8 iron shaft in the 9 iron and via versa to achieve the optimum gapping without mixing the set.  Think half an inch is worth 3-4 yards, but others may have more experience of trying this.

Driver - SIM2 Max

5W / 4H / 5H - G410

3i - SIM

Irons - ZX5/ZX7

Wedges - MD5

I'll split the length of the shaft in the middle too, like the lofts so it becomes as close to a 9.5

A consideration is the bounce change when either increasing or decreasing loft. I don't know how much it will bother/influence your strikes.

What shaft length are you going to built to?  If you're splitting the difference with that too, then I'd say buy the 8 iron b/c you'll prob have to add a few grams of head weight.  That's much easier than removing a few grams of weight from a 9 iron head...

not sure I’ll go to the lengths of adding or removing weight. Just a stronger or weaker lofted club with shaft length to match
