GAME IMPROVEMENT IRONS AND Shafts

Recently swapping out Rogue cf18 xp95 s300 irons out for a couple different  sets. Trying to work out best irons / Shaft combo for my specific needs.

 

12-16 handicap

6i 87-92 mph swing speed

Driver 103-105

 Just purchased a couple sets of irons.

1. Mavrik Max elevate 95 stiff

2. Mizuno JPX919 Hot Metal with TT tour new concept x1 shafts. 

I Have a set of project x 6.5 steel shafts i ordered for the Mavriks.

 

I tend to sky my irons, especially the 8 and 9i.

 

I have gotten to where I try to knock down every shot rather then sky them.

So my original plan was to put the project x shafts in the rogues, but sold rogues and bought mavrik max. 

I also just bought the mizuno jpx919's. 

So plan is to take both sets to my club champion shop and hit both sets to see if I really do not like elevate shafts. I am 90% sure I want to try the project x in the mavriks, and then compare the mavriks to the jpx. 

I will pick whichever set I like best as my gamers and sell the other or maybe keep both. Also thinking about mavrik pro or jpx919 pro's, or maybe the jox forged.

I would get properly fit with an open mind. Don't try to figure it out yourself. The irons and shafts you are using could be totally off the mark. I don't know why someone would invest $2K plus on a set and not be properly fit. I get if you are buying a $200 set off kijijji then what the heck but if you are serious about improving and you are dropping real cash, do it properly.

I would get fit but also take a look at the stock shafts of sets that interest you.  I got fitted into Steelfiber I80 which were not available from the manufacturer.   I wish I had tried the closest stock shaft and reduced the cost.

If you’re going to spend the money to go to Club Champion you might as well get fitted by them for irons. It will save you a lot of guess work and cash...

And, the fitting would help you sort out the shafts. I have just 87 MPH speed with my driver, but even I found the XP95 shafts a bit feathery.

Go to a big box store and ask them to let you try the mizuno shaft optimizer. That will give you your top 3 shaft choices based on your swing. Its a good starting point. But I agree with everyone else, the best thing to do is to get fit.

That's a great suggestion as well. I forgot about that.
