Best Utility iron of 2021

There are a bunch, but it really is best to go out and hit them. I've tried the T-MBs on a few occasions with shafts that work for me but they always go right and weak. They're stellar clubs, no doubt about it, but absolutely don't work for me. I had an MP-H5 1-iron that worked really well for me, but the same shop built me a 2-iron and at one point I picked up the 3-iron, and neither of those were any good for me. I suspect they do something different with the weighting internally, but it was night and day. Right now I'm trying out a TM 790 UDI and I've watched all these videos showing it going crazy low but for me it flies much higher than expected (in a good way, because that makes it more versatile while still looking like it should roll out well).

So many great options out there, but it really is amazing how some will just suit you and others won't at all.

Hard to go past the Srixon for performance and value. The current offerings from Titleist (u500 & u501) and Mizuno (HMB) are also great options and worth trying

Hows it play ?? I play the u65 and love it but can get spinny on me. I was going to reshaft but upgrading isnt completely out of the picture.. Looking for more feedback on the new ZX utility.

It's the best UDI in my personal opinion. Very solid feel. Doesn't feel hollow at all like some other UDIs. The price is not that high surprisingly, so better to sell off your old one and upgrade with this. I would suggest you go with graphite shaft but that would be your personal choice.

Not spinny at all but that will depend on the shaft of course. Best off the tee but easy to use off the turf as well. Goes miles and in fact I might have to get a #3 ZX7 utility instead because it really goes quite far! Very easy to hit and better ball flight compared to hybrids as well. The stock shafts are good but there are loads of option if you want aftermarket shafts. Looks like a long iron but plays like a UDI if that makes sense.

Also blends in well with my Z Forged irons so very very very happy with the ZX7 UDI. I would go as far as to say that it is a perfect UDI in the market currently in 2021. Highest possible recommendation.

I just bought the Callaway Forged 18* but with this weather I haven't been able to hit it yet.  I hit it once at my instructors and it was super easy to hit and long so I wanted one.  I got the PX Catalyst 100 6.5 in it.  Can't wait to try it on the course but it may be a few weeks for me.

What about the Ping G425 Crossover? Anyone tried it?

Interested in that one as well. Previous versions were really bulky and also spun very low, which might or might not be a good thing.

At least these ones look cleaner but I would have prefered the finish of the G425 irons over the black

As long as it goes as high as my u65 ill game it. One of the things that i love about the u65 is the moon balls i hit with it. Yes, i know, some of you hate the high ball. I dont mind them with a long iron replacement type club. They help me.

I like my Mizuno MP-20 HMB 2 iron (my 15th club), but it is not a rocket compared to some. Still, plenty of distance. Feel is excellent, however, and it's not as bulky as some of the clubs out there.

For a 2i I love the u500.  Very low spin, compact look at address with minimal offset and solid feel.  Looks more like an iron than a utility.  Gives me maximum distance off the tee.  Rarely use it off the fairway.

For a 4i, I’m currently gaming the 18 xforged  utility and it’s awesome!  Feels soft, great launch and can actually get good spin out of it.  Biggest reason I like it so much.  Can flight it high and land soft.  Gives me what I need for going into a long par 3 or positioning off the tee into a short par 4.

All about finding what you need.

I've hit em all.  The G425 does remind me of the G710 irons but with less offset and a little better feel. Easy to hit and gave me good numbers.  Srixon's were outstanding, awesome feel but shortest because of spin (stock shaft not for me).  New Level version are probably the most underrated of all of em. Outstanding in every aspect and the shaft options beat em all.

Srixon ZX Utility is going to be REALLY hard to beat. X forged UT is good as well, not many bad utilities out there right now, just different types.

I have a Titleist 510U 2* paired with a Ventus 8S HB shaft and love it. I feel like anytime a UDI design has a thicker sole and deeper face, you really can't go wrong. Just depends on how you're intending on playing with your UI and the right shaft to complement it.

Callaway X Forged UT (2018) has been amazing for me. Feel is softer than i was expecting and can play it off the turf. Currently have the 21 degree with same shaft as irons (px 6.0), but ordered 2021 x forged UT in 18 degree and probably going to throw a Ventus Blue hybrid shaft in it to use as a true driving iron.

I’m currently using the Ben Hogan UiHi utility 4 iron with a Recoil 780 stiff shaft. At first I was a little skeptical about ordering a direct to consumer club without trying it first but I’m glad I did. The club has a great feel to it and has a mid-high trajectory. Easy to hit off the deck and has a good amount of forgiveness. At $110.00 its an absolute steal.

I'd put my 699 up against anything on the market, even without considering price... I hit a ton of utility irons before picking the Sub70... most either felt hollow or like a brick... the 699 was my goldilocks club... Still need to get some more time in with it, but I really enjoyed the feel.

PXG has a utility iron for $140, which is intriguing as well...

Just looked at prices for 699.  144 with steel fiber and mcc plus 4.  Kinda hard to pass up.  Hmm

What shafts are people getting in the 699?

cool. I have the pxg 2i but looking for something more versatile ( haven’t really tried hitting it on approach shots) although after today the 939x 3H may stay in the bag.

I've played a bunch. U45, Apex UT, P790 UDI, MP 18 MMC Fli Hi, U510 and now back to ZX Utility. The only one I didn't like was the P790 UDI. Every other head was much easier to elevate and much more forgiving. They all had their quirks here and there but for the most part played the same and how I've come to expect a driving iron to perform. The P790 UDI was just low launch, low spin bullets and I could never get the swing weight right. Otherwise I will never touch a Ping driving iron. Way too much offset. Everything else on the market is so much more appealing.
