First Equipment Upgrade-Advice Required

So I only recently took up the sport and started out with a generic "box set" of clubs to get me started until I got to a point where I knew the basics and knew it was something I'd be happy to invest a little more money into. I'm now at a point where I'd like to start upgrading from my box set so any advice would be amazing. I've done a little research and have the below ideas but I could be way off the mark so any input on my choices or alternative options would be great (I've already upgraded my putter and wedges so I'm looking for advice on Irons and Driver)

*Although I'm now willing to invest a little more into the sport; I'm not yet in a position where I'll be buying new so all the below will be used clubs on a reasonably tight budget!

Irons (budget up to around $200: I've been looking at Wilson Di9s, Ping G5s, Mizuno MX 23s or Callaway X-14s

Driver: (budget up to around $150): I've been looking at Taylormade M2, Callaway X2 Hot or Cobra Bio Cell

As may (or may not) be apparent in my choices, I'm all about forgiveness at this point. If any of my selections don't suit that, please feel free to tell me!

Thanks in advance

I will suggest that you buy into new equipment slowly vs trying to get everything at once (helps spread your cost out too).  Identify your priority, then either get fit or try offerings to get what fits you best.  Spend some time with it, then move on to the next area (example = driver first, then irons, then putter, then fairway woods/hybrid/driving iron, then wedges....then start over again!

Driver (9.0) - Cobra LTDx Aldila Rogue Silver 70 S, 44.5"
Wood (14.5) - Ping G425 MAX Alta CB 65 Slate S

Wood (17.5) - Ping G425 MAX Alta CB 65 Slate S
Driving Iron (20) - Srixon U65 Project X 5.5
Irons (5-6) - Srixon Z565 Project X 5.5
Irons (7-P) - Srixon Z765 Project X 5.5
Wedges - Vokey SM-7 Jet Black / 50.08 F / 54.08 M / 58.08 M DG S300
Putter - Edel E-1
Ball - Titleist Prov1x
ZGrip Midsized Grips

Great advice and something that I honestly didn't even consider. I think it's easy to get caught up in a whirlwind when you're looking into new equipment-I'm probably more than guilty of that!!

I think my main priority at the moment is to upgrade my irons before my driver

For drivers I would go with the m2 over the other choices, but a lot of that is my personal preference.  You can also find good deals if you are willing to shop around on titleist ts2 as well as mizuno st200.
you can always post a WTB add in BST telling people the sort of irons you are looking for and you may come across a good deal.  Any ping g series is a great place to start.

The good news is...if you can go used - you can likely get equipment that cost $300 a few months ago for $100 or less...ask me how I know....

Irons-  Look no further than Maltby.   The STI-2 are receiving great reviews.    Driver--- Cobra F-8 or F-8+.. or similar release driver.   I have had one for two years and it is every bit as good as my Ping G410

If you are able to get a free fitting at any stores I would recommend doing that just to get a good understanding of what types of shafts you would want to look for in clubs too (flex and weight). When I first started I did the same thing and didn’t really understand much about different types of shafts and ended up with a little mismatched set after a while.

used irons of few years back is definitely not a problem and a great way to save some cash.

if i were you....

id go in big box store and ask to get fit on mizuno shaft optimizer. then pick a shaft that you like best of the top 3

2nd - often free at big box stores.....get fit to length - note length can be adjusted after purchase longer or shorter. same for lie angle

3rd - shop ebay as doubtful bst will have much of the older irons.

4th - buy a driver - g30

irons - get the right shaft and then start searching ebay for irons. jpx 800, anything ping if you like the look, etc will be fine. you can find used wedges and low cost putter for $75-100.

all in, if you really want to get started and have a set that isn't going to hold you back i'd guess $500 needed.
