Ping 2021 putters...

Ping 2021 putter lie specs notes 20 degrees (+/- 4). How does that translate to other brands, Scotty for instance, that notes 70 degrees as stock standard?

20 degrees lie angle from PING is the same thing as 70 degrees from other OEMs, it is just with reference from the other end of the scale.  For example 71 degrees is the same thing as 19 degrees for PING.

Thanks. The stock Anser 4 appears a tad flat (which I like). May not need to bend it.

Really bummed they don’t have a reboot on the Shea model. Fingers crossed the next Vault line or if they release PLD models that it’ll be included…☹️

I've emailed @MortonGolfSales twice to find out if it's possible to order the Anser 4 without a sightline, and a sight dot on top instead. Unfortunately they haven't replied.

Having consulted their website sightline removal doesn't seem to be an option, but the following video indicates that it is. Much confusion. If anyone can confirm either way, that would be appreciated.

Highly unlikely since all the insert heads aren't made at PING HQ from what I understand. So the only chance you have of getting one without a sightline is if PING ordered a batch of them naked or with sight-dots or whatever for their tour staff. And then they are willing to sell you one of those heads.

It's not that hard to do yourself… citrus paint remover carefully strip the line, and use a pencil eraser or some other round object to put the dot on. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Can anyone with a Tyne 4 do me a huge favour….what’s the dimensions of the head (Heel/Toe and Face/Back)?

thanks

I'll try to remember to do this when I get home, and my opinion on the 2021 line so far is very good.  I love the Tyne 4 and I've rolled a few of the other putters at the store and have really liked them all.

any feedback on the center shafted tyne?

I really like it, but the head is noticeably larger than the heel shafted.

So I put the Harwood in play for the first time yesterday. Mostly liking it, as I'm definitely starting the ball on better lines than I was with my Newport 2. My only concern was I had a tendency to come up short on longer putts. Anyone experience the same?

Could be the added weight in the head I guess.

Just a 'get used to it' kind of thing or should I start looking elsewhere?

IMO minor (aka consistent one way, not like you have no control) distance issues are always a "get used to it" kind of thing that just means you need more lag putting reps.

Consistently starting the ball on line for your 5-10 footers is what makes a putter a good (or bad) fit.

I need a backup (preferably milled) B60. I don't putt well with anything else.

Yes, almost!

Saw that thread a while back. Unfortunately, no B60, but maybe the Hovland putter will work with a double bend (I seem to aim the B60 so well because it has just a slight amount of toe hang, close to face balanced, but with a plumbers neck).

I may have to call Ping to get some more information.

Thank you.

  • 2 weeks later...

After 13 weeks, got my Fetch.

It's a weird mix. I got the adjustable 58S, and I have it exactly the same as my Sigma2 Fetch. I'm finding that my forward press has a tendency to open the face, about 4" right over 16'. Call it adjustment. I see what some have noted as a "hot" or "springy" face. It plays like a no insert putter for ball speed… nearly no loss in restitution, but it still feels like an insert.

Someone like me coming from a Sigma2 insert that most certainly was a soft insert… well, we'll see how this goes. Opening salvo was discouraging, but I also think it's just a feel that I need to and can adjust to. The adjustable shaft is much better, and we'll see whether I feel it's in need of another Breakthrough shaft. Leaning that way, but we have a few months to go...

This is the first "insert" putter for me. I have nothing to compare it to and, it feels and performs terrific. I think I just happen to find goldilocks, here, as the static and swing weight with my desired grip have this rolling and feeling amazing.

And I have my directional down to it's a slightly different grip. I'll get it figured out. I'm always initially discouraged, and then grow to love things. Rarely is it "boom that's the one".

We'll see, but even tonight, it's been encouraging after the rough start.

This is the best insert/face for me in a long time. Can’t say enough good things about my Harwood.  I even like the grip which is usually the first thing I rip off.

after some brief experiments with the 2 ball ten (both the microhinge and limited edition white hot ) and an OG 7, i bought the tyne center shaft and like it so far.  I just put a superstroke on it to try as i didn't like the stock grip.

The face tech and the weight being up front get the ball rolling nice

Another quick addition. My normal 15-16' putt with a Sigma2 is going 18-19' with the 2021.

I put a 105g Edel round grip on my Tyne 4, and after a bit of a shaky start on my first round got into a great groove and started dropping putts all over the back nine. I'm going for an Edel putter fitting next month and now I'm hesitant because the Ping is feeling pretty great in my hands now!

Just got caught up here. A little bit about me: love Ping, full Ping bag (other than "driving iron"), and, after trying to love mallets and mid-mallets, have given up and come to realize that I will be an Anser guy for life. I have always played Anser style blades since I was 12 years old, and that's just what I love to putt with. I had a Sigma that I ended up tweaking too much and screwing up. I got a Sigma 2 off the shelf at PGASS. I LOVE the all black head with white flange line. I have never aimed better in my life. So much confidence standing over the putt, which is everything. So I'm stoked they kept the black head with white line on flange in this 2021 Anser. Don't love red, but you can't see it from address, so who cares.

Every other company makes an Anser style blade, obviously, but I'm sticking with Ping, who invented it, as long as they continue to make black heads with white sight lines. I don't really care about anything else. My current plan is to buy an Anser of every model Ping comes out with, just to try them all out, and have a stable and historical line of Ping Ansers.

I wish I could get an adjustable shaft that goes from 36" to 37", as I think my proper length is somewhere in there, but I'm not sure. I think I will gamble on a 36.5" (current Sigma 2 is 36" and feels just a bit short for me (I'm tall)).

I will be asking my wife for one of these for my birthday and I'm excited to compare to my Sigma 2 Anser and I'll let you all know. Sounds like the consensus here is that the 2021 is a slight improvement over Sigma 2...

Just wondering how folks are getting on with these putters.

I'm thinking of buying the anser 2.

I really like my Kushin 4. I have only played insert putters with my previous 2 being an odyssey stroke lab black 7 and an o-works jailbird mini before that. I have putted my best with this. To me it feels great off the face but there's enough feedback to know when and where you miss. I don't seem to have an issue finding the pace with this on slower or faster greens.
