Best Course for The Money You Have Played?

I used to work at a par 3 course in Sonoma county when I was 15(lived across the street). 18 holes, 25-135yds, 3 lakes, and 300+ ft of elevation. Really cool place that just needed the support of the locals, and a better management team. Was $10 all you can play on the weekdays, $15 on the weekend. $2 coors lights, $3 hot dogs. I once played 54 holes while working.... only saw 3 people all day, were regulars, paid me when I lapped them on my 3 round, there first. Man, do I miss that place.... but I’ve also walked rustic for $38? Or $42? I can’t remember, but it’s up there, world class golf course.

I once played Forest Dunes in Northern Michigan for $23. I was asked by the guy in the pro shop not to tell my playing partners who played $160 and it was never on golf now as a deal again. I also played TPC Sawgrass for $120 when they had deals on golf now a long time ago.

Played Moray old and new on one day for a total of £36

I'm torn on this, I've played WeKoPa, both courses a number of times for less than $20. Of course that's in the summer and the last three or four holes can be in brutal heat. But I think I have to go with Royal Portrush. It was around 400 for 36 holes at the Dunluce course.  I absolutly loved the course and 36 holes for that rate seemed like a bargain.

Locals at Stono Ferry got like $38 at the time as well.   Shot first round under 80 there.  

 

I've never been mad at the $ for Ocean Course or Sawgrass... discounts, yes, but had so much fun, love Pete Dye, and never skip a chance to play his courses.  

 

Achastsa up in North Ga?  That was a fun track, I didn't pay but it's in BFE, couldn't be too expensive.  

 

Agree - Charleston Muni, post-redo is a challenge with good variety and all the template holes Raynor's known for. Only thing is that the greens are so small which makes some of the pin placements close to unfair with the undulation.

 

Stono Ferry also good value and friendly staff

 

There are lots in Myrtle Beach as well - too many to name but recently played Legends Heathland (Tom Doak design) & Moorland (P.B. Dye) and was very impressed, think they are both around $75

Southern Pines was the locals secret until recently when Pine Needles / Mid Pines group bought it. Was about the only place in Pinehurst area you could walk for < $100, but won't be that way anymore. Kyle Franz is doing the renovation and I'm sure it'll be awesome, but priced accordingly.

I played Bethpage with my ex brother in law and it was super cheap. He’s NYPD and we got a great rate. Unfortunately, that ship has sailed 😂

Man - I've got a list. Most of these you've likely never heard of.

 

Sonoma Ranch in Las Cruces

Dos Lagos in Anthony NM (I believe permanently closed) - not a standout track, but plenty of great memories there

NMSU State Golf Course

Kilmarlick GC in the Outer Banks, NC

Rock Harbor GC in Virginia

Devils Ridge - Holly Springs, NC

Tobacco Road (I live 5 minutes from it)

Tot Hill Farm

Myrtle Beach National

 

And my top pick: Oakmont CC.

Ackerman-Allen Course and Kampen Course at Birck Boilermaker golf complex at Purdue University (West Lafayette, IN). 

 

Its $42 to walk 18 holes at either course and its a bang for your buck for Purdue Students cuz its $29 to walk 18 holes. Cart are additional $10 i think. The course is decently long, I usually play from the blue tees at around 6800 yards total. It is located in West Lafayette, Indiana and honestly the fairways are lush and the greens are immaculate. The staff at the pro shop are really nice..shoutout to Andrew and Scott !! and the pro shop is loaded with cool Purdue golf gear. The range is also really good.

 

Both courses are designed by Pete dye...amazing... Ackerman is the easier one out of the two but not as easy as some think, its hilly and the views are immaculate, makes you forget that you are in Indiana. Kampen is challenging but really fun, and less trees lol. I cant put into words how nice Purdue's courses are and in fact, most of my friends from nearby universities such as Indiana University, U of I urbana-champaign, etc would drive an hour or two just to play a round at Purdue

 

Definitely a course worth visiting if you find your way in the midwest!!! Fun fact: these two courses are part of the 7 course pete dye trail...

I played Pebble Beach twice one day for $30 total.

 

Okay, it was the old Peter Hay but it was a Pebble Beach golf course. 

 

An aside: Going up in July to play the big course there. Can't wait to try the new, improved Hay.
