Scotty Cameron 5.5M vs 7M-anyone used both or compared to 5MB/Studio Stock #3?

Does anyone here have experience with these 2 putters? I grew up with a Ping Anser 2 but found I get a lot of twisting and open face hits.  I started playing around with a Cameron 5MB last week and it feels a lot more forgiving: my good putts are still just as good but my misses are offline by less. I also like the feel and speed control of this putter.  I also tried a Bettinardi Studio Stock #3 Mallet: great putter but the head is so heavy that I tend to struggle with speed control.

How do the Futura 5.5 and 7M stack up against these?  I am using a Wellput to improve my stroke and minimize my arc; straight back is tough to do but slight arc isn't.

I can't answer your direct ask but I can come close...

I fumbled around with the phantom x 5.5 and 7.5 recently. I think they're very similar to the futura models.

I left everything right with the 5.5. Very well could have been alignment. Stroke seemed easy to arc but 75% of putts were right misses.  The 7.5 is a thing of beauty stroke wise. Easy to align. Easy to arc. Just made a lot of putts. I actually lucked into one at a cheap price and have been practicing with it...shows a lot of promise

The 5MB if I remember correctly has minimal toe flow/hang, not face balanced but closer to it than not. The 7M will match up better with that, but will be a bit wider and larger. The 5.5M has more toe flow/hang and works for those that have a little more arc in the stroke. Both are great putters if they suit you, I've gone through a few periods of success with the 7M myself and have found it's my favorite of the mallets SC has made. Some say the feel is too soft with the full aluminum face but I actually liked it.

I've previously owned both the 7m and 5.5.  The 5.5 has around 30* toe hang versus the 7m is near face balanced.  Can't say I'd recommend either though honestly.  the 7m is huge.  The 5.5m I just struggled with.  I think there are better mallets out there honestly.  As for face balanced, I preferred the 6m versus the 7m.

It sounds like you should be looking for something with 25-35* toe hang based on a slight arc.  There are a ton of options out there including the spider, 5.5 as mentioned above, but a lot of blade options as well if you prefer the blade look more than a mallet.  the toulon columbus is one of them of the top of my head.

the heavier mallet putters I have used feel more "pendulum" than the blade, which is why I am looking in that direction.   I don't have a preference either way though: whatever works, as they say!  I tried a 30 degree toe flow mallet (Odyssey Marxman) but it lacked any sort of feel and I had trouble controlling distance with it.

Yeah, 5MB looks to be around 20 degrees.  The 5.5M is therefore closer to 30?   Can I get that by adjusting the weights (heavier toe/lighter heel)?  Or does that screw other stuff up?

yeah, odyssey is bad about that.  You should focus on a lightly milled solid 1 piece.  I believe the 2020 scotty cameron line has some in that toe hang range with that.  The 2021 futura line up is coming out in March, you might wait and see what they come out with.  I'm thinking it'll be a solid 1 piece as well.

I've never been a fan of adjusting weights to try to change the toe hang, just feel like throws off the balance of the club more than it's worth IMO. If the 5mb has that much toe hang you might want to give the 5.5M a look.
