How do you remove a Super Stroke grip ?

it's tricky. air compressor through the top of the grip with a few squirts of mineral spirits sometimes works - but other times it just starts blowing the grip apart at the top and bottom seams.

If you try and use a grip remover through the bottom you will compress and ruin the rubber/foam permanently and it wont fit the same again.

I've also done it by mineral spirits + twisting from the bottom of the grip if you can get something really thin like a shop pick under the first 1/2" and get some in there, just start twisting and adding more at a decline letting the spirits drip down while you twist.

IMO it's not worth the $25 in how much trouble it is, though. Just cut it off and put on a new one if its really old.

As a side note - superstroke makes 'tour cord' grips they sell on their ebay store - these are VERY EASY to swap back and fourth and dont blow up when using a compressor. I've taken mine on/off like 4 putters this year with ease.

I have had succes using grip removal tool from golworks and spraying grip solvent between it and grip.  It takes patience, but it has worked.  I was able to put them back on without any problems.

Another option depending on how much you want to take out is to remove the shaft from the hosel, cut it and reinstall.  Most of the .370 shafts have a long .370 straight section.  A mistake I have made in the past with putter shafts is to install the shaft (no tipping) and them butt trim.  I play most at 33"  So that does not leave a lot of butt section for the SS grips.  Now I tip trim as much as possible and then butt trim.

Got the link handy? This might be interesting to see

I saw the video a couple years ago. I went on youtube to look for it but couldn't find the one I remember watching. There are quite a few videos of guys removing and saving grips.  Some use air, some have a removal tool one guy uses a coat hanger but he also uses air.

Basically all I do is bend the coat hanger into a very narrow U shape and stick it in between the grip and shaft an inch or so and add solvent. I keep moving the hanger around the grip and adding more solvent. As the solvent loosens the glue the hanger will go farther down the grip. It takes about 5 minutes but all the glue will loosen and the grip will slide off.

I've done various putter grips and a few regular grips that I wanted to save and had no problem.

Most putter shafts have a section of parallel tip.  3-4 inches.  Most times these are installed straight without tipping the shaft.  Then butt trimmed to length.

Lets say the OP wants to go from 35" down to 34".  And there is 2 or 3 inches of parallel tip on the shaft.  They could heat the hosel, pull the shaft.  Cut the tip off 1" and reinstall the shaft.  Not removing the grip, etc.  Just pull the shaft, tip trim and reinstall.

My putter has a double bend shaft in it so I don't think this is going to be an option

Can't find the tool Golfsmith use to sell, Golfworks sells one similar for $40 ..don't think so

I think I'll just cut the darn thing off

There are needles  you can get to squirt in solvent, wait a few seconds, twist it around. try to put the needle in the stitching or seam of the grip if possible. Also top and bottom cap. have to wait for the tape to absorb it and release.  That is how they removed a scotty winn grip I had once. Took time, but got it off and can hardly see needle entry points.

I use a metal skewer that is about 3-4mm wide and about 1-2mm tall.  I filed down the end of it so that it was not sharp and would not damage the grip or the shaft.

Then I just stick it down in between the shaft and the grip, get some solvent in there, twist for a bit, push it in a little further, more solvent, twist.  Rinse and repeat.

It will take a while but it will come out intact.  It will seem like it will never come loose, but it will given enough solvent.  Patience helps.  From there I use a cleaning rod and a .45 cleaning brush to get any gunk that is left in the grip out of it.

This video is an example of the one you can get at golfworks.  The skewer was just a solution because I was too lazy to order the real deal.
