shaft creeping out of adapter from a season of play

I was looking at a friends clubs yesterday and noticed his 5 wood has almost a 1/4" separation from the adapter to the ferrule. The ferrule is not loose as what would be the most common thing. I asked how long as this has been like this and he said "a while" which means he doesn't know. He the said I reshafted it for him. I didn't remember doing it and told him I never had a shaft do that before.(Now I think I did reshaft it mid 2019 season) I use Bramptons epoxy and prep like always do. 

Then I looked at his newer driver and the same thing is happening. That one I know for certain I didn't reshaft. He had that reshafted by a local club builder in July.

All the shafts are Oban aftermarket.

Would this happen from him hitting the club on the ground after a shot?

I've seen him do it but mostly hitting the tee into the ground or after the fairway wood shot hitting the divot back "into place"

double check and see if the head is loose for sure by holding the head in one hand and the grip in the other and try and twist the shaft.  if it doesn't move then it could be the ferrule.  another thing to check is the grip.  most grips are put on with the logo facing up.  if the grips logo is crooked the the shaft has come loose then it needs re epoxied.

The why or how doesn't matter.  At this point, it needs to come apart and be redone.

I dunno, I would not twist a graphite shaft & risk damaging any fibers. Iron shaft, yes, graphite, nope. As Socrates says above, just best to pull it apart straight out (or get a pro club maker to do this) and re-epoxy.

twisting a graphite shaft when it has been heated is very bad.  twisting a fully set not hot graphite will do no harm to the fibers. this is a test to see if the epoxy has broken loose.

Agreed with Socrates, it needs to be taken apart and redone. The best case scenario is that only the ferrule was improperly bonded, but it is far more likely that it is a symptom of a poor glue joint.

Sounds like the ferrule creeped its way up but hard to tell from here obviously...  I'd think the the adapter slid off by a 1/4", it's a matter of seconds before the whole thing comes loose... It should not be able to slide off that much if the whole thing isnt about to completely come off... You should easily be able to move it by hand.

He's having them redone. He's taking them back to the builder who did his driver. He's thinking about getting fitted for different shafts anyway.

I've had irons and a 3 metal do that where there is space/gap between the ferrule and hosel.  I strongly suspect that it has more to do with perhaps leaving the clubs in the trunk of the car or somewhere really hot on a summer day.  It doesn't take a lot of heat for the head to come loose especially when sitting in a hot car.  I would recommend getting the repairs done from a professional.

Have you tried putting it in a puller and pushing the ferrule back down? Most times you're not just going to be able to move the ferrule back into place with your hands.
