The Lunge/Early Extension

I'm finally focusing on this with my swing. Curious if anybody here has conquered it, and how they did it. In working on it I can tell that my issue was generated by a little lack of mobility in my left hip. I'm doing something similar to that drill people caught Tiger doing prior to hitting his irons on the range (some I'm sure are familiar with that). Make the move, then hit a ball...repeat. Good thing I enjoy working on my swing - haha...

Lack of mobility is almost never the issue.  Better hip mobility can help you compensate for whatever fault you have, but it doesn’t address the core reason.

Since I started the speed training routine with Superspeed, I began filming myself and realized that I've been goat humping quite I bit.

I just rewatched some of your videos on early extension then compared to my swing, and voila, I found the culprit. 

I went too wide on my backswing and try to narrow it down on the way back. I feel relief knowing exactly what I've been doing wrong.

The orange shirt video I haven’t seen in probably 8-10 years.

 

All I can say is....not bad.  I knew absolutely nothing when I made that video.  Those were just ideas I came up with from observation and copying bad swings of other people on the range and filming it.  Don’t think I was teaching yet and certainly didn’t have the understanding and data I have now.

Thanks for sharing. This is interesting because as soon as I started targeting this I felt like my arms didn't have enough room. I instinctively started making sure they were in front of my body, vs trapped behind my right side on the downswing. And, now that I've watched that second video I must also mention that this morning while working on this I tried addressing the ball about 2" closer to the ball. This made me stand just a touch taller. And, I hit the irons really well doing this in my practice this morning - a little taller, rotating the front hip back. This is exciting stuff because I'm down to an 11 now and my goal is to make it to single-digit this year. This should accompany all my putting practice well....

Me and you both, mate. Im at 11, and my goal for 2021 is to cut down 1 stroke average for every 2 months.
