Leather grip is too tacky

Robert L.

Recommended Posts

A few months ago I bought a Grip Master leather putter grip from GolfWorks  for installation on my Otey Crisman putter. After I installed it I noticed that the grip was incredibly tacky, too much for my tastes. I assumed that in time it would get less tacky and would feel fine, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It still feels crazy tacky to me! Is there a way to get rid of some of that tackiness, maybe some saddle soap or some kind of leather conditioner?

Did u get an extra tacky one?
I had a GM midsize signature grip (unperforated version), and just replaced it with a GM groo leather.  The signature was a bit tacky at first, but quickly worn out.
The groo is not tacky at all.
Both feel great.
I hope u have that issue sorted out soon.

Cheers

I had no indication that my grip would be tacky. I wanted a leather grip for my putter, but never having had one before I had no idea about the tackiness.

The GM have a “super tacky” version for many of their putter grips.
U might have gotten that version instead of a regular one.
My roo leather has zero tack.

Bumping this thread, because I figured this one out. I have a Pure Classic putter grip that was wayyyy too tacky.

I was thinking about what I liked so much about Iomic putter grips and it was the fact that they start to feel almost chalky after a while. Still soft to the touch but you are still able to adjust your fingers without messing with the putter face.

Luckily, I have a toddler. A toddler with sidewalk chalk. I cleaned up the Pure grip, grabbed a grey chalk stick, and shaded the whole putter in. Once you work it in with your hands for a minute, the chalk blends in with the rubber on the grip. The result is a proper smooth putter grip.

Yep, powder or chalk will lessen the tack. Dirt will also do it, LOL. But of course, this will all come off on your hands eventually. Better off doing a bit of homework first and seeing which are tacky and which are not. Best Grips makes several non-tacky putter grips of high quality also.

Gripmaster makes both tacky and mild tac putter grips but unfortunately all of their swing grips are covered in pine tar. Years ago they made a shock resistant wrap grip that only had minor bit of tac and they were wonderful and used them for a decade. I can’t use any  any of their current grips because they are too tacky and the oozing pine tar makes my unfortunate hand eczema flare up. Would love to see them make the signature swing grip w a softer underlisting and very minor tac similar to their signature putter grips.

I'd admit, it's only on my putter in the first place because the Skinny Fit pistol blew a massive bubble at the start of the air install and was toast. Eventually this putter is getting an IOmic on it, I just used whatever was in my shed grip drawer.

You very clearly had a bad experience with the company and resorted to childishly dragging them through the mud on golfwrx. 6 posts, 5 of them within the last 3 days about how much you hate Gripmaster. Hilarious
