Empire Lakes!  Now there's a blast from the past!  Always meant to play it but never did although I did stop and hit some balls on their range once.  It's been gone a while now though.  Think they developed it into homes or condos or something like that.  Forget.

Yep, it’s a neighborhood now. Sad, Empire was a legit course in an area lacking those. They could set it up for the tour guys, and it’s wasn’t a driver / flip wedge into every green, to say the least. Fun course. A real test from the back tees on any given day. Wind a factor after noon. Fescue no bueno. Not a stinker hole on the course. Arnold Palmer design.

Hate to see some of the 1990s/2000s boom course builds losing out to overcrowded tracking housing.

Has anyone heard the reason he's still using a GBB Epic? You would assume he's giving up some performance for comfort, but I'm interested to hear his rationale.

Pics in the American Express picture thread has him using the Epic Max LS....maybe it was just a practice round but.....Screenshot_20210124-154010_Chrome.jpg.3170dd6cd6336a7106c263abc2624498.jpg

It’s interesting because if Na were to switch into the new Epic line I would see him gravitating towards a Speed or Speed LS (the version Rahm) is using. The Speed is probably the closest looking Callaway driver to the OG Epic

Clean out those notifications, looking like my Dad's phone lol, but good info. Interesting to know he's thinking about the new gear.

I got a used Mavrik at Christmas and I have a hard time imagining much improvement with the new gear, but would like to hit that Max LS just for curiosity.

Nelly Korda still using GBB Epic also. Interesting that they haven't switched into the new models

The free-wheeling swing one can make with a trusted driver is a VERY powerful thing to overcome when fitting for new equipment. I see it all the time with previous generation Callaway drivers as far back as the '16 Great Big Bertha (the one that's been living in Kevin Kisner's bag for years and may still be there). Not uncommon to see a player's CHS jump 2-3 MPH with their tried and true club in their hands.

Not crazy at all. The OG Epic sound was amazing, muted soft and it was long and probably still is. I regret trading mine in, wish I kept it.

Not being a turd, but what’s wild about it? Lots of pros using S or S+ iron shafts but don’t think I’ve seen a single pro not use x or tx in their metal woods.

I still swing my TC serial number GBB Subzero and I don’t know if they made the sweet spot smaller on it but I cannot get it to go straight. I also have to aim about 30 yards left of where I want the ball to go which is difficult for me to deal with but when I do hit it pure, man it will go. I probably need to give it up at this point and go with a stock more forgiving Driver. Or maybe it’s my swing. I just can’t get consistent with it.

Ha! My first Epic was the Sub Zero as well (non Tour) and I went through exactly what you are experiencing. It is a fade machine. at that time, I was thought to love the draw and as such, in the end, I changed over to the regular GBB Epic with the sliding weight - totally solved my fade. You may say the SZ is longer because of the lower spin but it's pointless if you are in the right rough all the time. Nah, change it. Even now, I am avoiding this Sub Zero - but I do own the Epic Flash Sub Zero since it came out but that has a sliding weight which totally helps control the fade/draw but the sound is NOT as good as the GBB Epic...

Send me a couple more profiles please?!  It seems you have the knowledge but I have been around fitting many years.  You do know what TX indicates...correct?

Huh? “TX” usually denotes a tour stiffness...

Off the top of my head...

Ricky fowler C taper S+

shane lowry KBS Tour S+

JB Holmes S400

Paddy Harrington KBS Tour S+

Kevin Na
Brent Snedecker SteelFiber 110 S.

All use irons shafts designated as softer than “x flex” for their particular shaft of choice.

truly, I wasn’t asking this question to be a big swingin d**k, I’ve genuinely been looking for a tour player who plays softer than x flex in his metal woods for a couple years now.

Shubhankar Sharma definitely had at least one stiff shaft in his woods during 2018, when he was at his highest OWGR at 64 or so.

Aaron Rai has a S flex driver shaft, and he won on the European Tour very recently, this past October at the Scottish Open.

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head and if I can remember any more, I'll share. 🙂
