Tiger update - another surgery

I understand not wanting to hang it up when literally your entire life has been competing in front of an audience and showing that he's one of the best ever under pressure. When he made his last "big return" after the fusion he was pretty effusive about how much he missed being out there competing. Even when his body is telling him he might be nearing the point of no return I'm not surprised he's not done. It's definitely not an easy thing to turn off.

Michael Jordan didn't give it up when he should have. Michael Shumacher is about to return to F1 after years off and a less-than-stellar finish leading up to his retirement, despite his overall record career. Ronnie Coleman literally destroyed his lower body to win all the Mr Olympias he took.  The personalities that produce the kind of wins and competition that most will never forget aren't the kind to go quietly into that good night.

Yeah, I hope TW listens to his doctors. One day, if they tell him he could cripple himself out there, he better be smart.

Ronnie Coleman!

I had the same procedure at L4-L5 in 2012, and again in 2014. Both doctors instructions: no swing a club in any way for 3 months. He will be lucky to be in tournament form for the masters.

Was your’s outpatient when you did it?  Obviously there’s Still going to be healing time for the disc, etc...but it seems they have come a pretty decent ways in terms of invasiveness.

This all assuming it was L spine surgery. I’ve got T spine issues, and looking into that for myself, it’s a totally different ballgame the higher you go in the spine.

Not surprising though that it’s compounded a bit. I HAD one bad disc in 2006, FF to 2016, and the T spine disc got a bit worse but I had 3 bulges show up on my L Spine too.

Perhaps we’re seeing something that’s bothered him for a year or more now, so maybe he does better after this?  Time will tell I guess. Dude came back from fusion, hopefully this isn’t the one that knocks him down for good.

Yeah, I bet the Masters will be his first start of 2021.  Not ideal..

If they change which one is it, hole #5, he still probably has a chance. Good a place as any for him really.

There are a lot of things that made Tiger great, and #2 was that he outworked most everyone.  At some point his brain just can't make his body do what it wants without injury.

Eventually, as you get older, you realize that your mind & body are not on the same page.  Your mind can be at 30 while your body is 60.

Everyone needs to care for their aging body:  Have realistic expectations & allow more time for things like healing.

Tiger is becoming familiar with this inevitable process.  His future depends on how he handles it.

The 5th  surgery doesn't surprise me.

Once you start, it will just continue.

Tiger's doctors probably informed him of

of future surgeries might be needed when the first surgery took place .The

article states it was successful, so I expect him to play again. Hope for a speedy recovery, I am sure at some point, Tiger will decide to curtail his play, or retire from competition, and build more courses. Golf will always be in his future

You know...I don’t think any of us should really be surprised. Wouldn’t surprise me if he had it done the day after the PNC. That camp pretty tight-lipped on everything. Only reason we probably know now is because of the buzz of the tournament season coming up. You know he wants to play the majors, so he probably had a plan already in place to have it done. Heck, maybe he put it off just to play with his son.

No his son Mick is entering F1 in 2021. Michael Schumacher had a really sever live threatening skiing accident in 2013 that he has never recovered from and nobody is sure how his health actually is. He was in a medically induced coma for 6-7 months.

Thanks for the correction. Guess I wasn't paying enough attention when that headline skimmed by.

Damn, that blows. Was looking forward to seeing him at this year’s Masters. Wishing him a speedy and full recovery.
He did it once, he can do it again.

This is going to be going on for like the next 20 years 😂

TW keep playing less and less until all he plays is the Masters once a year and

We be like,

Tigerrrrrrr! On the tv, haha. He definitely win this year!

Both of mine were outpatient. In and out by lunch time both times.

Second one they tore a hole in the dural sac and I had to lie on my back for 24 hours after I got home. Talk about uncomfortable.

I knew something was up with TW when he didn't commit to play Torrey a few weeks ago. I'm just glad it's minor surgery.

Those of you haterz saying TW should hang it up need to get some perspective. All his life people have been telling him to quit, probably back when he sunk that putt in elementary school on national TV and maybe even before that. TW doesn't quit, that's who he is. If he was a quitter he would have hung it up years ago, but he's not. If TW is one thing he's a winner. Some people just can't grasp that, and don't understand what motivates people like TW. They have no clue while they sit on their computers and hate, hate, hate all day.

TW will be back and he will win more majors. Bank on it.

Not sure where your rural sac is located, but it sounds painful.

I really hate autocorrect. It was supposed to say dural sac. I fixed it. It’s a membrane around the spinal cord that contains spinal fluid. They patched the tear, but it needed to fully heal. And yes, lying flat on your back for 24 hours post back surgery is quite painful. I went through probably 1/2 my bottle of pain killers and didn’t sleep more than a couple of minutes over that 24 hour period.

Here we go again, with the prognosticators, therapists and keyboard docs...crabs reaching at the top of the barrel, if only to pull him back down again. Ridiculous talk if I've ever heard any. Saying that he should be done is basic admission that you'd LIKE him to be done, and is nothing sincere from a well-wisher's perspective...

Rory McIlroy revealing this morning that TW underwent the procedure on 23rd December. That in itself, is good news in terms of the potential for seeing Tiger play at The Masters however, the chance of him being competitive there would seem to be minuscule at best. If he really still believes that he should only turn up to tournaments that he thinks he can win then there is no way that he should be there.

Not surprised.  His back has been stunting his career for quite a few years, and he almost retired from it.  He may be competitive but I think he won't win another major.  He's not the 20 year old wonder kid that killed the ball anymore.  There's a lot more people that are younger, bigger, and stronger that will deny him the wins in the years to come.
