Scotty experts assemble! Is this Studio Style Newport 2 legit?

Hey everyone, sorry know there are tons of these posts but I feel each one is unique. First time Scotty buyer, got it for a decent price considering the shape and am 70% sure it's legit, but would love to remove any doubt if possible. 

 

Sharing pics here. Tried searching the serial number on the shaft on Scotty's site but came up with nothing, guessing it's more related to the shaft. Other factor is it measures 36"+, but obviously could've been extended. Got a hex wrench arriving soon to try and take the insert off. Magnet test was a very light pull (no stick) but that seems normal for this model based on my research. No original headcover unfortunately. Also grip is not the original but seems legit as well?

 

I can add more pics and also pending on if I can get the insert off with the wrench, may take head off and weigh it separately. Let me know what you think and thanks in advance for any input!

Looks good to me. The fakes on these are pretty bad and usually easy to see even without having in hand. Nothing stands out as bad on this one to me.

The best test is to remove the insert. i bought one on the bay a couple off years ago in very good condition, tried to remove the insert and it turned out that the putter was all one piece and the screws were apoxyed on. also the insert should be a different color than the rest of the putter because it is made of a different metal.

A piece of advice because I feel like most of the people who ask for help with this subject are in the same boat... If you have any doubts regarding it's authenticity, please investigate that BEFORE you buy it. I've seen too many people talk about the great deal they got on a Scotty, come on this forum and ask if we think it's real, and then ultimately have to deal with a return or claim when it's pointed out that they got scammed. 

 

I hope this doesn't come across as me being a jerk because that's not my intention. I just don't understand why people throw down money for something and then try to figure out if it's real after the fact.

Its legit.  And as others have said, its a good resto candidate.  The fakes of these were really easy to spot.

Thanks for all the input. I may be naive but figured I can't do too much worse to it with the restoration if I take it slow 🤣

 

@Abh159 totally hear you and not coming off as a jerk at all. I buy and sell a decent amount of clubs and felt fairly confident in this one, just wanted some reassurance being my first Scotty. The price point and seller talking to other potential buyers made me jump on it, wouldn't be the end of the world if it were a fake given what I got it for but good call regardless.

It's a cool throwback with a few battle scars. SOME may even call it "mint".  I'd game it.
