Srixon 745s VS Zx7

Recommended Posts

The 745s were some of the best ever, no doubt.  I do think the way Srixon went more narrow in the sole on the 785 (and I am assuming ZX7) was a good design, making them a touch better through the ground.  Someone did a review of the 785 vs the ZX7 on YT and there really wasn't much in them, FWIW.  I was waiting on the ZX7 but after watching that vid, I bought some 785 and am completely happy with them.

Very interested in this as well. Still playing 745's and didn't change to the 765/785's (although they are very good irons, just not as good for me as the 745's). Looks like the sole of the Zx7 is back to being more similar to the Z745's. I am anxiously awaiting these to be available in my area to hit. When I get the chance, I will post any comparison.

My concern as well... Faces are definitely starting to wear with the soft forgings.

And prices keep going up on nice used z745. The raws on bst are tempting. 😁 My understanding from pics and my own, is the zx7 are closest to headshape etc to z745 of irons since. Although I still prefer the classic 745 looks, I may have to try zx7.

Saw those, but not a fan of the raw clubs. My thought exactly on the Zx7's. And a return to the 745 sole.

There are also several wrx members that have awesome discounts through Srixon on the new irons so would be worth a shot trying. Prices are much cheaper than what I’m seeing used zx7s sets selling for.

Always a funny thing to me when all the new stuff comes out...used prices inflated when you can order exactly what you want for same or cheaper.

So I got a chance to hit the Zx7's today. These had the standard Nippon shafts in them, which is a bit different than my 745's with the steelfiber. I only had a chance to hit off of mats (and only the 5 iron), on a pretty cold day here in Michigan.

To me, the hype on these irons is real. I have looked at the 765's (didn't care for shape changes), and 785's (didn't see any advantage to change and didn't care for the sole changes). I could put these in my bag tomorrow and not miss a beat. Again, limited to only hitting off matts, but these feel like my 745's. Soft, forgiving, and a great shape to look at. It's tough to do a real in depth comparison with different shafts, but the heads felt great to me. I will need to take a serious look at these as a potential replacement for my 745's, if I can convince myself to part with them. I think 745 fans will not be disappointed in these.

I plan to go and hit these again when it is a little warmer.... and more than just the 5 iron.

I hit the zx7 earlier in the week for the first time.  They look incredible and feel very soft.  Granted it was indoor with crappy balls, but they still felt great.  What I’m loving about them the most is the look at address.  Just a fantastic iron.

On a side note, the zx7 & zx5 drivers look amazing as well.  Srixon knocked this full release out of the park!

I’m very curious to hear feedback as well.  A buddy has a set of the ZX7 on the way so I’ll have a chance to see myself in a couple of weeks.  I’m still a huge fan of the 745s and on my second set after literallly wearing out the first.  I also managed to pick up a mint set last year that I’ll probably put in play once the current gamers need replacing.

I do think the sole is on the ZX7s in more like the 745s, but not as wide which I think helps with turf interaction.  I thought the 765s were way off the mark and 785s close behind those.  Hopefully these will hit the mark.

Srixon, are you listening?  Pull out the old plans and get to building the 745s again.  How many of us would order a brand new set tomorrow???

745 and ZX7 have the same loft but there is more offset in the ZX7. Both PW are 46 degree.

Ah, well my point was that going to traditional loft makes the offset somewhat the same if basing off a 30* 6 iron in ZX7 vs loft vs 745 that’s stronger)

I can't find any 745's in lefty, so I will likely be rocking the Z7 next year.
