Golf pride multicompound question

I was talking with a buddy of mine and he was telling me that the colored multicompound not the black or the white but all the other colors that they harden faster. 
 

I want to stock up on the Michigan colored version but not if they won’t hold up.

 

Does anyone have any insight on if this is really a thing or just one of those equipment myths that float around from time to time?

I have had red and blue grips. If they do harden, I cant tell. I just got a new set and compared it to one older blue grip.  The blue one does feel harder, but it is about 2-3 seasons old.   Im assuming most players change their grips in that time anyway.

In my opinion and experience the black and white do not get hard and slick as fast as the colored ones.

I feel like the white and black ones harden very quickly, but my black ones last forever

Have any of you made a bulk purchase and if so how did you store them before install?

I'll chime in, work for a golf store that has all of these multicompounds. Just storing them in boxes on shelves open to the air, haven't noticed any particular color hardening/getting rougher noticeably quicker than another

I have a couple sets, just keep them in a dry, temperature controlled place

Thanks everyone for the advise and experience. I’m guessing they would have to sit for a long time before hardening would occur.

Gray ones lasted 6 months here in Phoenix before hardening. Pretty disappointing for the high cost.

It comes down to keeping the grip clean.  Guys with the white ones can see the scum on the grip and more likely to clean them.

I found they all get slick pretty quick. Last year I switched to the eBay knock offs (yes I know, they are fake) and don’t mind changing them out every 6 months to keep them fresh as can be. I hate to cut off $140 twice a year, but when they cost around $55 I don’t mind as much. Weights are spot on and no one I e bee asked cbs tell a difference. Just find the ones coming from NY or NJ and they are as good as you can get.

 

To answer your question, I feel like they all get hard and slick much faster now than they did in the early 2010’s. Maybe a change to dyes or rubber. But they do not hold up. I still have 3 of the putter grips left unused from 2009ish and I keep them in a sealed bag.  Put one on every other year and they are excellent!

I agree that the new version of the MCC don't hold up as well as the older version. I buy the real ones not from ebay and that's what I've been thinking for the past 2-3 years. I've gone with the Lampkin grips this year when I bought the 921 and so far so good.

I would say, in general, stocking up on anything Michigan colored is not a good look. Ohio state on the other hand.... 😃

I think it will be fine... i woulfnt worry to hard about how fast they will wear... id much rather have a grip that feels hood and looks good then worry about how fast it will wear and if it does... it will probably take 2 3 season depending on how much you play.

I know been in a spiral but until last night with pause in team activity it would be hard to argue against what the hoop team has done this year... 😀

I wasn’t referring to how fast they wear but more about if they will harden over time by just sitting uninstalled. I have to admit that I don’t think the team colored grips with be around for an infinite amount of time like all things in golf but would like to have them for as long as I could as I buy and switch out grips or regrip due to wear.

UV rays will cause them to get hard and slick more than anything.  Before you install them keep them in a box so no light gets to them. 
 

once installed keeping them clean helps, but GP’s rubber compound is planned obsolescence at its finest. Lamkin holds up much longer.  Leaving clubs lay out in the sun at the range etc. will cause them to break down much sooner.
