Top fitters in DFW

Trying4Better

Recommended Posts

Looking for everyone's top fitters in DFW. Seems like this is something that isn't really discussed, but most would find useful. Let's try and keep GG and PGATSS out of this. I know they have fitters and can do a fitting, but let's be honest, it's not what any of us would want. Think of companies with true shaft selection and the ability to do more than hand your a shaft and say it looks good. Curious if we have anyone that can rival TXG or The Tour Van.

I’m trying to get fit and found out True Spec is no longer in Dallas. Bummer because I wanted to hit irons on real grass. I’m going back to Club Champion in Plano where I’ve had a good experience in the past but it has always been for driver.

@Trying4Better We agree with @Lefty_13! We have locations in both Plano and Fort Worth, each having access to over 50,000 club head and shaft combinations.

I had a great fitting with Jake at Stripe Show Club Fitters.  He’s a single man show that will make sure you are set up with the best of everything.  I’m just over 6’ but would never have thought I needed to play shorter clubs, but due to longer arms he set me up with 1/2” short and was hitting it longer and with a much tighter dispersion.  Check him out he’s just down the road from Love Field so very centrally located.

I prefer the fort worth store of club champ.  It's a hike if you live north of dallas like 1M+ of us do...but think their service is stronger.

Sellingers gets great feedback and I have a couple buddies who use Bo @ golf tec, both for lessons and fit.

I've done three fittings at the Plano location of @Club Champion, Driver, 3W, and Irons and have been completely satisfied with the results.

Being that I have paid for the fittings I have had no hesitation in taking the specs to another retailer where the clubs can be ordered from the factory with the spec'd shaft.   All three times I've been upfront with the fitter with my plan and while they've been obviously disappointed at losing the opportunity to increase the sell by several thousand dollars, it has not ever seemed to lessen the quality of the fitting.

I feel their purchase process of clubs through them is very inefficient (expensive) due to their model of buying off the rack clubs and then deconstructing for a rebuild with the shafts that the client was fitted for, and charging the client for all of those steps.

Hey, @TexMexx, we feel like we need to clarify some things. Our model does not involve anything off the rack. We have component accounts with all our OEM partners; any "increases" you might see are for additional services or higher-end product. Aftermarket shafts are usually pricey due to the nature of the materials and the small batch manufacturing. We build the cost of PUREing (an additional service) into the price of our wood shafts and offer it as an a la carte option for irons. We build the cost of labor into our grip prices and repair prices. We also charge for our fittings to offset all the wonderful things that make Club Champion unique -- the best fitters, the 50K hittable combos, the tech in every store, the best builders, the 15K square foot build shop, the Perfect Fit Guarantee -- you get the point! We never expect our customers to purchase from us but bringing specs to another retailer is risky since swingweight changes based on machine, not every retailer has access to verified components, we can't guarantee the build for life since we didn't construct the clubs, and so on.

Good news is, sounds like you had some awesome experiences with our team, and that's amazing! Just wanted to add some context to the rest of your feedback. Hope you're able to hit the course this weekend out there in TX!

I went to Jake based off this recommendation and I couldn't have been happier. One man show in a private studio, great environment. I did my whole bag over two days, really enjoyed it.

Just got done with a driver fitting with Jake at Stripe Show based on the recommendations from this thread, and couldn't be happier with the fitting. I've been fit at a few of the popular spots in DFW, and Jake was by far the best. His fitting studio is perfect for one on one fittings, and he had every head and shaft in multiple weights/flexes. To top it off, he had all of the components in stock and built my driver right after the fitting so I was able to take it home same day.

Got my clubs back from Stripe Show on 6/12/2021 (shafts were on back order) all I can say is WOW.

Jake fitted me and the shaft he recommended gave me a tighter dispersion. the feel at the fitting was pretty good.. well played them oI Wednesday and was flying the greens. picked up a full club from the old shafts. with a great feel ..

Also picked up the driver shaft and couldn't be any happier i hit 10 of 13 fairways and was 10 yards farther than my M1 driver I had.. these results were from the first round with my clubs.. next on the list is getting my 3 wood shaft replaced with the VA composite to match the driver..  But the most interesting thing was when I got my clubs Jake had buffed them out and repainted the numbers and they looked newer. this is the kind of service you get at Stripe Show fitters.

I had my fitting with Jake at Stripe Show and like others have said it was a great experience.  I had not been fit in probably 6-7 years so really wanted to see if my specs were still correct and if what i have been playing was really the best for me.

We started with the irons and I have been playing the Nippon Modus 120 stiff in my XZ7's so we got a base line with those and then tested about 6 other shafts and it turns out that the Modus and the MMT were the two best options for me.  After further research Jake said that the numbers were so close there was no need to pay for the MMT shafts and to stick with what I was playing with.

We when moved to the driver and i have been playing the SIM 9* tuned down to 7* with an ADDI 6X at 44.5".  We again got a base line with that and tested 5-6 other shafts.  After playing with the different shaft we settled on a VA Composites Drago(never had even heard of it before) as i was getting about 15 extra yards and brought the spin and launch numbers down.  We then started playing with the different heads with that shaft to see if we could get some better numbers.  It turns out that my head and that shaft were producing about the best numbers for me.  The Sim Max2 and the TSI3 were getting the spin rate down about 200-300 less than my head but he said not worth the extra money and to stick with my head.

So after all the testing i just went with the new driver shaft and that was it.  Most people would have probably pressured my into new irons shafts and a new driver head but not Jake.  He is a very honest guy and will beat around the bush or push you in any direction.  He has every shaft you could think of and it just looking for you to get the best stuff for you.   I did not do the putter fitting as i am very happy with my Artisan but he has that option as well. So basically if you want a true and honest fitting go see him!

Drago is a great shaft! I've been very happily playing it in my fairways for a couple years. Now toying around with it in one of my drivers. Best I forget about this thread or I'll be driving up from the Houston area.

Need to get new wedges this offseason. Any places do outdoor grass fittings in DFW? I'm also considering going down to Edel if anybody has any experience at their shop near Austin

There's a guy in Ft. Worth who makes some pretty decent wedges...If I could only remember that Artisan's name...Hmmm...

Call Artisan.  Jamie or Mike will fit you, then Mike will build you the best clubs you have ever put in your hands.
It will be a bit of a wait to get in for a fitting as they are booked solid into April, but the wait is worth it.

Go see Jake at Stripe Show in Dallas.  Went for a driver fitting today.  Great experience.  No real pressure to purchase anything, and the fitting was a great experience.

Hit a few 8 irons to loosen up the old frame, then eight with my current gamer (SIM 10.5 w HZRDUS smoke black 70gm 6.0) for a baseline.  BTW... It's an awful baseline 🙂

Started out with the new TM Stealth head as the standard for shaft selection.  Went through 8-10 shafts, hitting 5-6 balls per shaft to find the best performing shafts for my swing in that head.  Once we had three or four shafts as "finalists" we started different head/shaft combos.  I don't remember all the shafts I tried.  Tried the TM Stealth (really didn't care for it), Titleist TSi2 (felt pretty good), Callaway Rogue ST Max (felt REALLY good), and the Callaway Rogue ST Max LS (felt really good as well).

When it came down to it, the distance numbers of my Sim/HZRDUS combo weren't much worse than any of the combos we tried, but there was a clear winner as far as dispersion and, being the gear whore I can be at times, I bought it.

Left with the new Calaway Rouge ST Max on a VA Composits SLAY 65 Four shaft.  Can't wait to play in .

Artisian for wedges for sure, best most fun experience I've ever had in golf and the wedges are amazing. Mike Taylor is an awesome American and so fun to bs with. I'm waiting on them to start doing iron fitting. I got to hit there prototypes when I was there and wow. I'm waiting for those to come out.

I second Mike at Sellingers in Roanoke, I got a driver and wood fitting there and was very happy. Mike was awesome and very knowledgeable.

Does anyone have any experience with Russ Ryder, owner of Fit2Score in Carrollton? I didn’t come across this thread until after I booked an iron fitting with him, but my fitting isn’t until early January, so I have time to get feedback. Reviews outside of this forum are good, he’s a Golf Digest Top 100 fitter (maybe a paid for thing) and has the obligatory Master Fitter certification.
