San Fran to pebble

I would consider Poppy Hills and Pasatiempo as must plays. For value I would consider Bayonet / Blackhorse and Pacific Grove.

Nothing to add to what others have said - all good options. I have friends who really like Cinnebar Hills, just off 101 in San Jose, but I’ve never played there.

Harding Park is pretty close to SFO if you want to play a recent major track.

If you’re looking for courses on the way from SFO —-> Pebble.

You should play bayonet or black horse. You can find a $60 8am tee time if you’re lucky, have views of the ocean, and the conditions are a solid 7.5/10 (currently doing construction on a hote/housing community, but the course is still fantastic).

Poppy hills can be played for ~$50ish, but well worth the $75 if you don’t find a good time. It’s subsidized by the NCGA (as it’s the stapled home) so it’s always in great shape. (Can be a little wet sometimes, but presidio, crystal springs, delaveaga are MUCH worse currently)

pacific grove is a great deal, by far the cheapest of the bunch. But I’d personally pay the difference for bayonet/black horse. They’re on the same property, have a proper practice area, and feels like an event that should hold a KFT event.

if you REALLY want to spend all your money, PB, SB, SH, and Pasatiempo are all obviously the upper echelon.... but for the price of pasa.... you could play 2 rounds at BBH, 2 rounds at poppy, and a round at PG.

im an east bay local, and still have not played PB, SB, SH or pasa solely due to the price. I can get many more rounds elsewhere.

I hope I'm not too late to the party...

I play Cinnabar about 5-6 times a year and think they have excellent conditions year-round.  And with 27 holes there's a wide variety of shots to be made on any routing.  I like taking out-of-towners there because it's not a course that is often experienced in the rest of the country: holes running through the canyons, others alongside lakes and more than a few sweeping vistas.  The power lines on the east edge of the property mar the view a bit, but the course can be as challenging as you want to make it.  The wind in the afternoon can make things tricky so I recommend teeing off before 10am if possible.

San Juan Oaks in Hollister is also a good course (Fred Couples design) with some holes (like #15) that will challenge you to make multiple quality shots in sequence.  It's also very quiet there--no homes or highways, just golf.

I played Spyglass in February the day after the pros did for the AT&T Pro-am and when the course is set up for them (rough, green speed), it's a tough track.  Great time, though, as always, and worth saving up for.

I echo putting Poppy Hills on the list anytime as a great value with usually top notch conditions.  I'm playing there tomorrow and am interested to see how fast the greens heal from aeration (March 8th I think).

Update on conditions at Poppy Hills...if any readers are thinking of playing there soon, I recommend waiting at least a week.  The greens were very sandy on Wednesday and the aeration holes had not filled up much yet (9 days after aeration). The roll was true but pretty slow by their normal good standards. The pro estimated the speeds were about 8, and normally they are 10+ (my estimate).

Pasatiempo for sure.  World class golf.  Great logo for march too.

Cordevalle is also worth a look.

I think the bulk of great golf besides the courses you mentioned is private.  SF area has some of the world's greatest private courses.  PB area obviously does as well.
