The Euro Tour hangs around in the Middle East again this week and heads back to Dubai. The Abu Dhabi event seems to have over taken it when it comes to prestige however, a pretty strong field is assembled.

I can’t remember him playing last year either. If things are normal this year (big ask) I wonder if they might get him over at Crans Sur Sierre in Swizterland.

McIlroy last played the Dubai Desert Classic in 2018.

 

He did last play in the European Masters in 2019.

 

Maybe he gets to choose one or the other.

I really like the 17th on this course.  Risk reward at a crucial time in a round.  

 

It's a great pic that Mattyo1984 posted, but I'm a couple years away from being over the trauma of that commercial, I think.

I always look forward to this tourney....love the look of the course, although the greens appear to be a bit sketchy. But they seem to be rolling well.

 

Still amazed at the Dubai skyline. I can get my head around how all this is financed. Are all of those buildings full?

 

In any event, I would like to visit the area sometime.

A few observations:

 

1. Hatton's irons and putting were sublime. His driving seemed very average, much like in the final round last week, even though he won.

 

2. His Ping driver sounds absolutely awful!

Detry is usually a steady player who typically does not miss cuts.

 

But his closing ability when he is in contention is lacking.

McIntyre will hopefully take some positives away, but so far not really seeing what they would be.  Casey doing what is needed to win and liked his take when interviewed early.

Just watching Casey tee off on 17 and thinking if he wanted to loan me his golf swing even for a day, I'd take it! 

 

Edit:  I like that McIntyre had to try and get an eagle at 17 and went for the green, but for my own chronic course management woes I'm paying attention to the fact that McIntyre ended up with par and Casey made par, but had the better look at birdie.

Ruling controversy at Dubai! 🙂

 

On 18, McIntyre wanting to be as far right as possible on the tee, standing outside the width of the two tee markers (as Phil often does, do righties ever do this? 🙂 ).  His left foot is on a downhill that leads to a sprinkler, but the sprinkler is still 2 feet away from his left foot.  Waits awhile for a rules official.  Short conversation leaving McIntyre shaking his head.  I imagine the ruling was (couldn't hear): your relief is moving the ball to anywhere else within the teeing area.
