It is hilarious that they just outed themselves on their burner Twitter account.   Lol.    That’s gold, Jerry, pure gold!   Lol

Course played really tough today. Imagine what the US Open will be like.

What will the winning score to par be? Worse or better than the 2020 US Open?

Yes they agreed it was embedded, but who embedded it? A one foot bounce or someone pressing down on the ball? Is this the first ever embedded ruling by an official that was given with the ball not in the ground?

That second video seals it for me. I noticed it while watching live but being able to watch it again on loop you can see his back muscles contract as if hes pressing. Case closed 🧐

Could be, but that's not up to you to determine.  It is up to the player and his group.

Reed didn’t call anyone over. He also pressed his hand into the ball to make it embedded so he position was ruined from the get-go.

yes. It’s own pitch Mark. However, no one saw it bounce sí it was reasonable to assume the mark it was in was its own.

Grazie

So, on the replay, after the bounce, the ball is falling pretty slow. It doesn’t seem like it would dent the ground through the grass but if the threshold is “part of the ball” then I guess even a tiny dent qualifies.

He just didn’t have strong conviction when he mentioned the ground was broken but the rules official said he felt the dent.

Maybe he realized after he picked it up  that all the WRXers would crucify him so he called in the official at that point!?

Although I’ve defended his actions in regards to this incident, for the life of me I don’t understand why he doesn’t always err on the side of caution. If there is anything that could be questionable for him, why he doesn’t get an official ruling immediately.  Every time.

I guess maybe he just doesn’t care.

Maybe. Or, the Occam's razor here is that he is an obvious cheater, and to believe otherwise requires contorting various observable incidents into a series of 1 in a 100 "yeah, but what if this is what actually happened" scenarios.

So how’d the ball get embedded?

Could have went into another pitch mark, and would be impossible to prove whether it was due to Reed's shot or another, at the time.

Not trying to defend Reed, but this is a case of impossible to call him guilty just because you don't like him.

That scenario is incredibly unlikely, far far more unlikely than Reed actively pushing his ball down. Reed even admitted that it’s basically impossible. We are calling Reed guilty because he pressed his ball into the ground to get free relief.

I didn't watch most of the coverage, but am I to believe this was the only time today PR had a lie he didn't like in the rough?  Or were the wheels coming off and he needed a little extra relief to stop the bleeding?

He was on fire until that shot. He made par, but from that point on he played poorly and was +3.

Well, sorry, but Reed has not been called guilty by the PGA tour.  If you have a really good video of him pressing his ball into the ground, by all means, put it up.  I haven't seen it so far, though cheating has a part of slight of hand in this game.

This is real cut and dry: we all saw in the video and during live coverage the area of the course where this occurred - heavy rough that was at least a few inches in length. In the physical world we occupy, a golf ball simply cannot embed in that type of surface. For a ball to embed it has to reach the actual soil AND pass into it AND remain there. Torrey isn’t covered in thin, light grass or sparse patches where a ball could easily get down to the soil level. This wasn’t some trampled down area near the cart path that would have exposed mud and moisture by patrons, especially since there are no patrons!

Whether he followed the “process” or not, his past behavior hasn’t earned him the right to receive the benefit of the doubt. For all his talent and ability the guy is a scum bag at the end of the day.

It is obviously a slow news day, or maybe Tiger is out with another injury/surgery/rehab?

Did not see the live broadcast.  Watching the replay on GC tonight, it took 3 commercial breaks plus an Amanda 12th hole graphic segment until Nick and Jim reviewed the embeddegate.  That was 20+ minutes after the drop.  Do ya think the producers decided to add some fuel to the fire during that 20 minutes?

Plenty of time for the towns folks to sharpen the pitchforks, get some torches and round up a posse.

The PGA Tour doesn’t like to do that stuff. Heck, they congratulated Reed before on being such a gentleman after Reed fought with them over a rules violation.

It seems like, in today's world, people need to demonize somebody to make them feel good about themselves. What PR did was 'approved' by the PGA. Do you think the PGA is letting this one slip by? Do you think they have extra compassion for PR? Or, in reality, viewers just need to have a scapegoat in life to exist comfortably? Get over yourselves, there are no holier then thous! I hope PR goes on to win this tournament and silence all of the complainers.

And I hope that you politely move on with your really weak take.
