2022 Presidents Cup - Captain DLIII

I see that it was announced this morning that Davis Love III has been selected as the Presidents Cup captain for the 2022 matches. Am I the only one that saw it and thought “huh”.

 

No doubt, someone of the pedigree that you would expect to see as Captain but it doesn’t really seem to fit in well with the future planning that the US was seemingly engaged in when it comes to better preparing for the Ryder Cup. In saying that, I realise that the Presidents Cup is run by the PGA Tour and the Ryder Cup buy the PGA but it still seems strange nonetheless.

David is obviously well-respected, but use a captain to help get the experience for someone else

Recycled Ryder Cup Captain. I can't believe there isn't anyone else in line. This should be an audition to become future Ryder Cup Captain, not a landing spot for past captains.

understand that. Just saying The President's cup isn't nor will it ever be the Ryder Cup. So.... in my opinion this looks like a way to drum up excitement in Charlotte by having a UNC grad be "the captain" even though he's held that title more than any other. They're stretching. I think it'd be best to bring in another guy but we'll have another run with DL3

Nobody going to watch the President's Cup is going to watch DL3 captain. If they need him to drum up excitement, they need to be playing some where else.

Shipnukc is clueless.  It’s the perfect pick.  Quail probably asked that it be him.  Fans etc around here deserve to have it be a local guy.  Phil can have the next NYC or Cali one.  And so on.
