@TheMoneyShot you predicted correctly: https://www.golfwrx.com/658479/callaway-unveils-new-epic-super-hybrid/

As a senior golfer, I'm intrigued by the "super hybrid" concept as related to any potential distance advantage compared with "standard" hybrids. Do any of you seniors have experience gaming a $400 (gulp) super hybrid?

I want one of these.  I have the Super Hybrid from last year at 17* loft.  Still have a bit of a gap between the 3 wood and 4 driving iron that I put the Super Hybrid in for.  I could swap it for a 5 wood but I hit the hybrid better off the deck than a fairway wood.  Could be the shorter length but I just do.  Would love to get this in a 16* and then play with the loft to dial in the exact gap I have.  The current Super hybrid is a beast for me and is almost perfect but at times it comes up a bit short on certain length shots I need.  I think the Epic Super Hybrid would fit the bill completely.

Intrigued, but concern is that there is built-in draw bias that can't be adjusted out

leaning Cobra King Tec hybrid for that reason - can adjust weight to toe to ensure neutral to fade bias

I’ve been able to do some testing with this new Epic Super and it is definitely not draw biased. It was very stable with a pretty neutral dispersion. Maybe even a hint of fade bias, but nothing crazy.

Callaway use every type of exotic material to save every gram to put in the "extreme tungsten weighting" to increase MOI, but then there seems to be a 10g weight right in the middle of the sole which is the worst spot for MOI. What a weird place to put a swingweight screw.

And why a face insert and not a face cup design?

It’s actually the perfect place to put an adjustable screw for swing weighting. You can adjust the overall mass and swing weight while having very little impact on MOI or CG bias.

If I went with the Super Hybrid, it would replace my 7-wood (21°), sitting between my 5-wood (18°) and 23° hybrid.

I also just noticed that the standard shaft is the Aerotech SteelFiber FC HYB Graphite; anyone have experience with that shaft?

The Epic Super Hybrid is currently the object of my CAS (Club Acquisition Syndrome - adapted from Gear Acquisition Syndrome, a well-known malady among musicians in which equipment is amassed at great cost).

I'm a stocky 5-9 lad with a shortish, flattish swing...my dispersal pattern is respectable but I'm happy to take advantage of anything that produces a higher ball flight.  I've kept an old Adams Boxer hybrid in the bag for ages because of its wide(r) sole as I'm more of a sweeper.  I put a White Tie hybrid shaft in it some time ago based on some good reviews and advice but I can't say it's a great match for me.  The lighter the club the better for a moron like me who once fell off his roof and pulverized both wrists.

I actually don't fear fairway metals and can usually hit them well but through experimentation or intent I have ended up with two hybrids and no fairway metals based on frequency of use, comfort and confidence with each and situations most frequently encountered in actually playing the game on the course.

All that said, thanks to a very understanding and loving missus, the Epic Super Hybrid may be in my future.  Callaway site says available Sep 9.  Custom builds are available there but cite a 6-8 week wait.  Given the current state of the universe I'm guessing the 6-8 week figure is more accurate.

Their shaft options both OEM and individual model are legion and while I'm scrambling to research I wonder if anyone can comment or recommend.  I'm leaning toward the Project X Catalyst HL.

The AeroTech is the stock shaft, btw.

OEMs listed at the site are:

AeroTech
Aldila
Callway Golf
Fujikura
Graphite Design
KBS
Mitsubishi
Project X
UST

The club and all options are at https://www.callawaygolf.com/golf-clubs/hybrids/hybrids-2022-epic-super.html

Cheers...

I went to the PGA superstore last week, testing out some other hyrbids, 7 wood vs my G425 3 hybrid, saw the new epic super hybrid demo just sitting there and I give it a workout.  It is pretty awesome, ball speed, launch and very forgiving.  I hate to say it but it is so much better than my G425, not even close.

I just purchased one yesterday and hit it at the range on my way home. My oldest son is a big Calloway guy and told me our local shop had 4 of them that just came in. I bought the 2 Super Hybrid, it is adjustable like his Epic driver, here's a few takeaways from a Titlest guy. I really like this club, very forgiving, has adjustable shaft connector ( calloway ) which I really like how you don't loose your grip, shaft alignment, and this thing is super easy to hit off the matt, fairway, or tee. I'll be gaming it this weekend. One of the reasons I bought it was the shaft, I'm currently playing a set of Black Limited Edition T100's Iron and they have the Steel Fiber shafts in them. At first I was not sure about the shafts, but after playing them this summer I really like them so I bought the super hybrid because of my sons recommendation and my experience with the Steel Fiber shafts. I think the Calloway Super hybrid will find it's way into many players bags and most everyone will like it or find good use in it.

What lofts did you go with and what clubs did you replace them with?

The 2 is a 16*, I bought it to replace my 3 wood, I play several courses that are very woodsy, tree lined and thought about using it as a driving club first then using it on a few of the long par 5's. Not really sure how much I'll hit it in an actual round but I do have a few courses where it will be some help. I'll be happy to give some feed back after I get a few rounds in with it, but at the range I can see it being a very useful club.

Man I finally got over a stomach bug this week and really want to go test one of these over the weekend.  Love hearing that it’s more neutral bias as I did have a tendency to over draw the Super hybrid I currently have.  If I do pull the trigger, I’m going to swap out the standard shaft and just install the Ventus Black 9TX I’ve got in the Super.

I received my 2 Super hybrid this week. So far, I like it a lot. All season I have been trying to find a club between my 3 wood and 4 hybrid. I tried a 7 wood at Heavenwood length and a 2 hybrid. The 7 wood flew too high and the 2 hybrid tended to be on the low side.  This one is easier to elevate and travels the perfect distance.
