Adam Scott...autoflex

Recommended Posts

I don’t really understand why so many people want to say this is just hype and nothing new.  If someone had tried and said it was crap, or that it wasn’t worth the money, then I would certainly think that was good information.  I’ve also not hit it, but I’ve seen and read enough reviews from people that seem to be straight shooters, to believe that there is something different going on.  I haven’t heard anyone, aside from wrx’rs that I don’t know and haven’t seen swing or review a club, hit it and say “same old shaft, different paint job”.  If guys like Matt and Ian say that something different is going on with the shaft, then I have no reason to doubt it.  Just the way people look when they waggle it and then take a full swing convinces me something is different.
All that being said, I’m not interested in getting one.  It would probably suit my swing fairly well, but it is an absurd amount of money to me.  To others, $800 is nothing, and I hope it works out well for them.

I have no idea wether auto flex will work out well for the majority of golfers at different levels.  The price does seem excessive.  But to pretend already that they are “just hype” and nothing new is going on is strange to me...

I think the reason they won’t tell people is because they have a certain material that’s inside that they don’t want to patent since if they do, everyone sees what it is and can make a different version of it. They found a niche in the market that they think they can attack so they did. You can’t blame a company for protecting their IP and their one selling point.

I have had one for about 2 weeks and you really do need to get fit properly for one. It works different for everyone but from my own experience, it has been overall positive. I had a heavier head in and it just didn’t feel good and wasn’t working, but I put a lighter head in the drop the SW and this thing is a piss missile.

Has anyone provided an update as to whether or not Scott games it today?

If I was them I would be worried that some other company would figure out what it’s made of through element testing or whatever, and then make a version where they patent the technology (they did not patent the technology to keep it secret right?).  Wouldn’t that be something if Taylor made released their patented version and auto flex couldn’t make them anymore.

For what it’s worth, I’m a chef and know nothing about patents so there is that...

Sure. Bubba Watson had/has his pink Bi-Matrx shaft. Some years back Fujikura had pink Rombax shafts Yes for men. FTR Scott's Autoflex shaft is not entirely pink.

I shudder to think what would have happened had the most popular shaft at one time was bright yellow and purple. Nobody every would of bought it. Wait. What? LOL.

Yea one guy who is on TV. Go to your local club and tell me how much pink you see. Again this is an argument that pink INCREASES sales. And i say thats the biggest garbage ive ever heard.

Call it hype, marketing or plain ole BS but it works for me. Also I don't care what color it is or if it plays Yankee Doodle Dandy when you hit it. Bottom line is I went from averaging 136 ball speed to a consistent 140. Picked up 8 - 12 yards on good swings, dispersion is a lot better as well. No more wild shots that were costing me 1 - 2 strokes a round.

BTW - I'm playing it at 45" at a hair over D1 swingweight.

I’d venture a guess that if you pickup that much it’s because you were playing too heavy of a shaft and/or flex.    If I go up t an 80 plus gram driver shaft , ball speed dies  and dispersion Goes to crap.  Why ?  I’m having to jump all over it to load it

My previous shaft was a Tensei Red regular flex at 49 grams. If I'm not mistaken my Autoflex is 50 grams.

So you were 0 for 2 on that guess!! Kind of like my last Lottery picks!!

lol.  Well.  There’s no mystical material that will add 4 mph ballspeed.   That’s similar to saying “ I grew 4 inches of hair over night “. It’s a better fit in some form or fashion if that much of a gain was seen.

Well I have a pink shaft in a 5w and it is awesome, NVS 85x, and it matches my MyJoys wingtip shoes

I love low weight X and TX shafts and have posted on it before

Sounds from the post above it won’t work for me though

I am loving my AD XC 6x and it is running 46.25” and E3 .. sounds like heavy heads are NFG with Autoflex tech

Let’s remember there was a $1500 black shaft called Crazy in Japan not long ago IIRC

Next shaft for me when I get home is a Ventus Red 6x

Slightly unrelated to the Autoflex topic but the XXIO prime driver comes with a super lightweight shaft that feels like a noodle when waggled but when given a full swing performs amazingly, could this be similar tech that has been around for a while? The Prime I hit was 2 years ago and while I am old and don't have a high SS (100 +/-) the prime was much longer than the Driver combo I was playing at the time and if I remember the Prime at the time was a $700+ driver.

I was thinking about that, too. If I was Fujikura or Mitsubishi, I'd buy one and check what's going on.

I would have to assume 100% that’s these companies rnd are already trying this. Sometimes it’s more than just reverse engineering something though. Guess time will tell

So did we not get to see one single Adam Scott / Autoflex drive yesterday?  I watched quite a bit of coverage but it was dominated by Rory / Wolfe / Brooks.

50% fairways hit, average measured drives 281.5 yards, long measured drive of 289 compared to his season averages of 56% fairways hit, 312 yard average off the tee. Meh.

I don't think they showed much, if any, of him yesterday.  Golf Channel showed him this morning on the driving range and he had the Autoflex in there still.

It is all societal/cultural constructs. Baby boys could be swathed in purple and girls in green for the same price, culturally.

I'd love to see the engineering behind it, but I imagine it's some sort of smart polymer that can be tuned to react based on loading throughout the golf swing. Softens up when there's no load (at address and near impact) and stiffens up when force is applied (during transition). Because it's tuned to return to a certain state at impact, it doesn't matter if you swing at 120 or 90 it'll react in the way it needs to in order to get as close as possible to that state at impact.

Theoretically brilliant and it'll be interesting to see if takes off.
