Callaway Apex TCB - U.S. Release???

uscgolfguy

Recommended Posts

From what the rep told me, only available as custom order only thru accounts and have to have approval of Callaway regional rep to place order due to very limited qty’s for Apex TCB, Epic Speed TD’s, and forged jaws wedges.   I play 50, 54, 58 wedge set up so no go on wedges.   Ordered TCB’s on 3/25 and received on 4/6.  My Speed TD is on b/o due to shaft.

6.0 (stiff), I also offered to change the shaft selection if it would speed things up, something like the Catalyst 6.0 would work as well, and likely be better for my elbow.  Just not getting any reply from Scottsdale which is frustrating

And to be clear, I'm referring to scottsdalegolf.co.uk

According to our matrix we (Callaway) will get that shaft back in stock on June 1

Yeah, that's not gonna work for me, given I put the order in at the beginning of March.  Do you have access as to whether or not the Catalyst 100 6.0 is available?

I ordered the Golf Pride Tour Velvet Full Cord.  If need be I'll ask to have them choose whatever they have available and leave them in the box

Considering moving from blades to a smaller cavity in my next set. On the fence either getting a set of these or getting some new P750 heads. It seems like all the guys who played the 750s (Rahm, Xander, Kim) are playing TCB’s with callaway so I would imagine a fairly similar club.  Third option I could reshaft a set of 900 Tours I have collecting dust but that kills the fun of getting another set of irons.

Yep, as a staffer here it’s got me in blades or nothing else. That’s fine, I get how limited these are but it’s very interesting to me this year there’s really no equivalent to the “one step above MB” players category we see so many tour guys in, like p750, or my favorite iron I play now, JPX 921 tour. They’ve moved the retail lines considerably bigger and more focused on players-distance. The hollow Apex Tours are like rocket launchers, too hot for a lot of people, I do not need a 6 iron going 210. And I thought the X-forged CB fit into this and wow was I wrong when I saw them in person. They are big and clunky and strong-lofted.

it’s ok I’m talking a small portion of the market here but Callaway right now remains the only company to conceal so many offerings as “tour-only”

ummm...might need spectacles...but based upon the “real” numbers there is no way that the Apex TCB have “I really mean a lot of offset”...their stated offset rivals some blades...

I’ll let you figure out the math...#FACT-CHECK

Yes, even less offset than the Apex MB in the 9 - AW!

Are you sure they were the TCB and not the DCB?  The TCB have minimal offset otherwise I would never have considered them

1 round in with TCB’s and 2 range sessions.   Coming from Adams CMB irons and 2007 x-forged before that.   For me it’s a combo of those 2.   The shape/size of CMB with the feel of the 07 x-forged.   Add in the MMT shafts and I’m in heaven.  I ordered 1* weak on 4-P   To match up w/ my CMB lofts.  They are little longer than CMB, launch slightly lower, and spins slightly less.  Don’t have LM data yet.  Just going by on course play and grass range.  Exactly what I was looking/hoping for.   I put MMT’s in my CMB irons for last year so it’s a fair apples to apples comparison.  Looking forward to these as the weather warms up here in northern Indiana.!

X Forged CB sre hardly a lot bigger than TCB. Big and clunky? That’s a joke right? And strong lofted? 33 degree 7 iron. Branden Grace seemed to do just fine winning a Tour event with them.

Does anyone have any on course experience with the TCB's? Thoughts?

Pure. Got a round in with mine last week coming from my zx5/zx7 combo. I absolutely love the compact head and the fact that it is a bit more round. Although full disclosure I thought the zx7's were beautiful as well but definitely different shapes. They are definitely not as forgiving as the zx7 but I believe that is the point. Toe side hits especially are punished more with the TCB. For me i think the turf interaction was a little better with the TCB, I think they both got in the same but the TCB feels to exist the turf a little better. Center for center strikes I feel the zx7 was a hair softer but I feel there is more weight behind the hit with the TCB. Distances seemed on par (no pun intended) with everything else I've hit.

I know we live in different times...but last time I checked 1 < 2?  The “alligator” eats the “bigger” number...

Therefore, 0.126” offset of the Mizuno JPX 921 Tour 4-iron is MORE/BIGGER/LARGER than the 0.118” offset of the Callaway Apex TCB 4-iron... 0.126” is GREATER THAN > 0.118”

Class dismissed for today...well ZOOM some more tomorrow
