So I bought a set of Callaway apex tcb raw. After a round and a couple of practice sessions the rust start to show on the back of the club and hosel but 1/2 of the sole and face stayed « chromed ».
Called Callaway customer service to verify the serial number and they say the serial number match apex tcb and yes the face and 1/2 of the sole isn’t supposed to rust. That’s BS I’m Very very disappointed.

Now it appears the local guy cannot pull it off, too many hoops to jump though. But I have found and confirmed a store in Orlando can do it 4-AW but at $30 more a club.

Ugg, how bad do I want to blind buy these...but everytime I put one of the APEX pros or APEX behind the ball I long for a smaller footprint and smaller miss, well maybe a smaller miss.

Too bad it is this hard to buy a product from one of the big three.

Do it! They are so good.

That's interesting - must be the cup face business or whatever where it's bonded is plated and the hosel etc aren't. That is admittedly a bit weird. What about the actual face itself (grooves zone)? Is that showing any signs of rustage?

I wonder if you can strip the rest of the face or scotchbrite pad it up? Worst case start raising some stink and see if they'll swap for the full chromers.

Edited to add those shoes are looking fresh my guy!

Yes it’s def the welded face, a use a mix of salt/vinaigre and hydroxide peroxide to speed up the process and no sign of rust on the face. I bought them on eBay so I can’t even b**** at callaway for selling a half a** raw club

Wow.  That is terrible.  Dude, I 100% get any frustration you would have.  None of their raw clubs I have seen on tour have looked like that.  I highly doubt that is as they designed it.  Maybe that face plate will start rusting at just a different pace than the rest?  A different metal composition?

I don’t know, when I talk to callaway service department they didn’t look surprised. @callawaygolf

Foe those that have hit the XF CB and the TCB is there really much difference other than the TCB being a bit smaller?

I've hit both. I own XFCB 4-P and my pro has TCB in 4-P. They felt very similar although the shafts were significantly different (mine are MMT 105TX, his are Modus 120X). The main advantage is the lower offset in the short irons. The blade is also shorter. I wanted to do a combo set with my XFCB but Callaway said no. I've been too busy to pull the trigger but I think I'm going to combo with the Apex MBs.

Basically the TCB looks like a muscleback blade (I've played Mizuno blades since MP14s were new) but feels like a player's CB. It is hard to describe the difference between a player's CB and a MB but the MB always feels a touch more solid. All three have a feel closer to Mizuno soft than Titleist click.

I will say that there is significantly more toe side forgiveness with the XFCB as you get into the long irons. That is why I'm not going full TCB. The forgiveness of the XFCB in 4-6 iron is really useful while not losing distance or trajectory control. They are actually the best long irons I've ever hit. The short irons get pretty ugly and I find the 9 and W a bit less controlled than my old MP18 short irons.

So if you don't need a bit larger sweet spot in the long irons, the TCBs are great. I've played long iron MBs and played well, but I'm not going back now that I've found the XFCB.

Great info, I ordered my set 5 minutes ago. Going with the Catalyst 100 6.0 and we are trying to get the 5 -AW but if that is not possible then 4-AW, I have the 4 iron in the 21 APEX and it is good for mid-low height stingers so I expect all I would be able to do with the TCB 4 iron is low stingers but that is OK I find having a 200 yd running shot handy some times and it looks cool if you plan for it.

I hit the XF CB 7 with a MMT 95 and frankly I am not a fan of the MMT feel, but then we put in a PX IO 6.0 and got better everything so I am hoping for similar flight pattern with the Catalyst. I played the Catalyst 100 when it 1st came out in some Rogue Pros I believe it was (the sets run together any more trying to buy a game) and loved them so it should be a good match.

Now the wait starts, they say it could be as fast as 2 weeks but I am not counting on that.

I’m currently at week 4.5 of a 3-4 week estimated wait time for TCB satin 4-P, although I did order with DG120 tour issue S400, and I’ll wait rather than change the shaft. 🤞for a speedy arrival, really looking forward to them.

I ordered with the same specs on 4/5 and still waiting.. I think the hold up might be the grips though since it seems almost every Golf Pride grip is backordered.

I ordered S400 4-p on May 4.  Received 4-8 Irons on May 12, 9 & PW on May 21st.  TI S400 ( 132 gram) and Lamkin Crossline Cord Midsize.  Much quicker than expected.  They were shipped overnight from Mexico.

Just picked up some Srixon ZX7's. Hoping the larger face helps me a bit. The TCB's sure are special. Kind of hoping no one buys my set so i can just hang em on the wall haha

I played my friend's ZX7 when I was waiting for my TCB to arrive.  I won't tell you what to do or think.  But, I find the TCB to play better.  But, if you miss laterally, the bigger face may be exactly what you need.  The ZX7 launched super low in comparison.  But, he had them bent strong a little bit.  Maybe do a head to head before you decide.  But, both of them are absolutely fantastic sets.  I don't know if there is an iron out that looks better than the ZX7.

I played the past couple 7 series Srixon irons (745's & 785's), and just find them to be such a great players cavity that is very forgiving. Haven't tested the TCB's but I cant imagine they could be as forgiving on toe strikes as the ZX7's. That said, I'm currently playing TC 201's which I love as well but could easily go back to Srixon, no problem.

I am week one into the wait and have to go out of the country next week so that should get them to ship. Can't wait to try them and see if it is the unicorn set I have been waiting for. Frankly I am done with combo sets like the APEX pro 21 I have, I am never satisfied with one or the other in the set performance wise.

FYI, I have a set of “new” ZX7’s that I will be posting for sale 4-PW, Modus 125 X (soft stepped), +1/2” and 2* upright.  ZX7’s are just to large and thick for my liking.

Anyone in the NoVA area, they have the Apex TCB at Golfdom in Mclean. I believe it was $200 a club (I saw 4-PW on the rack... not sure how many sets they have).
