Maybe creating the hype.
was chatting with a buddy today, and they probably took the lessons learned on the bad side from the Pro Dot release, and are looking to capitalize on this one with even more hype and revenue

To those of you who are more into the tech-side of things. How difficult are these to play compared to for instance the Mizu JPX921? Are they much less forgiving or not? I am an eight handicapper (29yo) currently playing with Titleist 735CM that are getting a bit too old. Are these catered to scratch players or do you think that they are suitable for 0-10 handicappers too?

Ordered the 5, 6 on 2/5 and got them 3/1; ordered the 7 - PW 2/2...waiting...another week or so.

First of all, that Scottsdale UK site is awesome. Great find.

Here’s what I’m wondering. If you weakened the lofts on the standard Apex 5-7 irons and strengthened them on the Apex TCB 8-G, would that make for a good combo?

The Apex Pro looks good just like the TM 790 and 770 look good, but to me the XForged CB is much more satisfying at impact. I’m guessing the TCB feels like the XForged. It is very much the same design in a more compact head (maybe too compact for me in the long irons!) If I going for the tech in the long irons, I’d just go for the standard Apex over the Pro.

Most certainly the TCB can be combo'd with the Apex, etc.

I am doing this with the TM P790 irons in the 4 - 6 .... at times when not playing much, ie winter.

I am not changing the lofts on the TCB, but I have weakened the lofts on the P790's....as shown here:

P790's have the PX IO 6.5 which is a lighter and higher launch shaft...and also them in the TCB 5, 6 irons.

The TCB 7 - GW have the PX LS 6.5 (heavier and low spin).

Why?  I am experimenting with these shafts and I have the LS for the 4 - 6 irons as well and so I may replace the IO with the LS at some point.

The IO is a 117g @ 6.5 while the LS is 125g @ 6.5

I’m about to test drive the IO 6.0, which I am hoping is similar in flex to the PXi 6.0 or PX Rifle 5.5.

Apparently, a solid head with the carved out cavity in the upper back.  The back plate is solely for swingweighting the club...no cavity behind it.

Say Semi CB head perhaps is a good descriptor.

Yes, it is somewhat similar to the Mizuno MP59, only in that one the tungsten was co-forged into the head and could not be changed. And that was a great, compact iron. I enjoyed playing it, but the long irons were pretty small!

It appears that the MP59 used Titanium in the center section which gives the toe/heel more weighting since the Titanium is less dense.

The TCB uses Tungsten in the back plate of varying weights (for SW) which concentrates the weighting in the center more by comparison since the Tungsten has more density.

Anyway, very interesting as it is different construction than the X-Forged which has a hollow center cavity filled with microspheres.

Should be hearing more about it as time passes.

You are correct sir. It was titanium.

I did not realize there are microspheres in the XForged

CB. Is that in all of them or just the long and mid-irons? That must be why the reviewer said the TCB is quite a bit different from the “one in the States.” To me that is another plus for the TCB.

Not certain about the microspheres in which irons?  Good question.

CALLAWAY X FORGED CB CONSTRUCTION

Callaway is from the school of thought that believes hollow-body irons should be filled. To that end, the X Forged CB iron features a MIM’d tungsten internal toe weight. Weights range from nine to 14 grams depending on the iron.

The primary purpose of the toe weighting is to offset the weight of the hosel by pulling the center of gravity down and away from the heel. Let’s call the result low and reasonably centered.

URETHANE MICROSPHERES – CALLAWAY’S CAVITY GOO

Callaway’s increasingly ubiquitous urethane microspheres are injected into the cavity to improve feel.

Our brief departure in today’s story is this: While there’s almost always a Speedy McSpeed story around the various goo fillings manufacturers inject or otherwise cram into their irons, in reality their purpose is almost entirely to dampen vibrations and improve feel.

Yeah...good to know as I am trying to compare the X Forged vs The TCB to see what the differences are between them.

It appears that the microspheres are used in the X Forged UT... according to:

Callaway Announces New X Forged CB and Apex MB Irons  - Plugged In Golf

I bet that the MGS writer got it mixed up and included it in their CB section.

Makes sense @QuigleyDU The X Forged CB irons feel fantastic. Not saying Apex Pro feel is bad, but these two irons definitely feel different. The Pro is clickier to me.

Anyway, same comparison I am making on the XFCB vs the TCB. Always down to wanting compact but not too compact! They both look good to me. I’ve only had the XForged CB to try. They are sweet. I was on board right away, even as the back weight and screws were drawing some critics. (I have no problem with adjustable weight on the back of the iron versus in the hosel. Why not?) You see them in hand and they look really good. They look high quality to me. The offset is in range. The hosel/topline transition does look a little different, but I didn’t actually notice it until I read about it on wrx. That kind of thing seems to disappear once you play a few rounds.

Overall I give the edge on looks to the XFCB but it very well could be the TCB looks the best from address. They look smaller but not too scary in photos. Due to less offset and more Tour use of the TCB, it will mean that any buyer who doesn’t like them will no doubt be able to move them. They have a rounded look, but I generally like aiming those shapes. Yet there also are some pros opting for the XFCB and Branden Grace won with them last week. It’s good to be a Callaway staffer right now.

That is probably right.

If the Xforged just had less offset it would be perfect. I prefer the blade length of it.

The best combo might be XFCB in the long/mid irons and TCB in scoring. I brought along a 2018 XForged 8 iron to a store today to compare to the XFCB and the new one is a sligntly smaller profile. Not a lot smaller but you can see it. So the TCB is even smaller. Also, just as an aside, the ‘18 XForged is almost the exact same head size as the new standard Apex. The standard Apex is a nice looking club.

My source says the Raw TCB's will be available for order through special accounts! Also lefties will be able to order the TCB's 4-PW, but not the 3 iron and GW. All the triple diamond stuff will not be available to order for lefties as well. Being a lefty I am extremely disappointed about the no raw TCB's in lefty, but I guess I'm luck I got a set of the Raw MB's this year.

It's not so much "special accounts" it's more so certain types of accounts hint hint. The rest you'll have to figure out yourself 😉.

Haha thanks for the hint, I’ll get thinking!

Yes, thank you!...Scottsdale UK  (excellent).    I order a 7 - PW; 5,6, and GW individually and that keeps custom charges zero.

I have the 5,6 and waiting on the 7 - PW...should be in another week or so and then the GW.

Any initial feedback, yet?  Assuming you may be waiting for the 7-PW to arrive.  Would be interested to hear how these compare to: T100, ZX7 and JPX 921 Tour?

Have not had those irons, so no comparison forthcoming.

Still only have the 5, 6 and waiting on the 7 - GW...should be shipping soon.

Probably won't be trying anything until sometime in April...just weather related soft turf and partially open range.
