Callaway Apex TCB - U.S. Release???

Why?  I am experimenting with these shafts and I have the LS for the 4 - 6 irons as well and so I may replace the IO with the LS at some point.

The IO is a 117g @ 6.5 while the LS is 125g @ 6.5

I am liking the PX IO 6.0. Not harsh at all but offers a lot of stability and a nice, boring flight. Very consistent strikes with this shaft. It is the only one I’ve tried of the new PX shafts. Definitely not as stout as Rifles, which I played for years, but to me a better feeling shaft than PXI. I always liked the Rifles more than PXI and I’d say the IO feels like an easier to handle Rifle design more than it reminds me of the PXI. I have yet to try the LS. Was a little worried based on the marketing that it might feel really stiff. How have you found the LS and IO compare?

My fitter just let me know he will have a small amount of heads in a couple of weeks.  I’m really curious to see these guys live.

Good info on the IO.  Once I get my 7 iron TCB with the LS, I will be doing some testing between it and my 6 iron TCB with the IO shaft.  Probably be another month as the range I use is only partially open for wedges/short shots due to weather.

 

You have seen this comparison between the IO and LS graph that Russ Ryden produces, but for those that have not here it is.  Similar profile and the EI Area is the same for the two 6.5 shaft even though the IO is 117g and LS is 125g.

I like that site. I pay the $10 per year because Russ is legit and it is the perfect site for shaft geeks. The EI Area number he now includes is very helpful, as that is supposed to convey how stiff the shaft will “feel” relative to other shafts. He doesn’t have that info on some of his older tests.
 

I’ve been sticking to shafts with a 16 or 17 EI Area number, but the PX IO 6.0 is 18 and I didn’t notice it. The LS 6.0 is 19 with slightly lower torque, so my guess is it will feel a little stiffer than IO 6.0 and if I soft-stepped it, probably would be very close to the IO. For comparison, the True Temper Elevates are just a little softer feeling at 15 for reg, 17 for stiff, 19 for x-flex, and I think that is accurate. The IO feels a touch stiffer, but it is not a dramatic difference.

If you're in the US you had a import limit of $200, but I think it raised a few years back to $800, but if you're over you're liable for local taxes and handling fees if the seller hasn't pre-paid them.

Not sure about the finish...mine are polished steel and look great.

For those of you that have seen these irons, how would you describe the sole and leading edge?  I am going to have to pull the trigger on these without hitting and I like an iron with a little bit of a worn leading edge.  How do the soles on these look?  The sole on the new X-forged feel a little bit flat and sharp to me.

Fairly flat sole(slight rounding) with a slightly rounded leading edge.

More compact head, less offset, and thinner top edge...same design as x forged.

No...two finishes, polished steel and raw.

This is what my pro builder guy told me...that he has ordered some TCB heads in both polished steel and raw, and also has some TD's ordered...not sure when they will arrive.

Passed on both and ordered two Forged Jaws wedges...😃

TCB looks like a beautiful iron to me, but I hate to say it you're taking the Apex Pro every day of the week based on those numbers. Tightest tolerances in almost every category including spin consistency whilst maintaining a more consistent (and further) carry number. TXG test showed the same - ridiculously tight peak height, spin, carry, and dispersion with the Apex Pro.

Maybe here are some better numbers then from Michael Newton Golf.......... look good...to me.
