Cally Super Hybrid - Anyone still bagging one?

I bought the 20* off of CPO.  My was freaking brand new.  Stickers all over it, couldn't see a mark on the face.  I would have argued it wasn't even used.  I have the Orange X flex.

Number 17 on my home course is a sharp dogleg left that can be much easier if you can draw it and fly a tree at about 160 yards out.  The tree is massive and you have to hit it 110 ft. plus in the air.  Not easy but doable for a handful of guys at our club.  It is tricky because if you try to hit driver and don't turn it hard and get it up, you can fly it through everything and into a lake on the other side of the hole.

I literally bought the Super Hybrid just for that hole.  I love the thing.  I cranked it up to 22 and can fly it over the tree and turn it over easy.  It is my favorite hybrid I have ever hit and it isn't even close.  I am thinking about getting a 17* now.

I use it on other holes now because it is a fairway finder at about 235.

ah man, i need to stop coming here and reading about everyones success with this club!

I think the 17' head is low spin and need to get on a LM to confirm.

It goes really really long distance on my home course when I don't want to hit driver off the tee and 2nd shot on the par5s.

I was hoping for a solution from customer service like an exchange etc

but when the rep wants to tell me that an extension makes no difference and will not come up with alternatives .. it was so shocking I just went with take it back

Sad because Like NEW has always been new for me in past purchases.  The rep told me this was not always the case  ... at least be consistent in ratings .. c’mon

Imagine, I get a club he knows has been with a customer and extended and used and regripped ... its full of water .. AND STILL ... there is no proper c/S reply like “let me get you another one out asap”

I just received my 17 deg SH with the Pro Orange that I bought from a WRX member, and hit about 10 balls in my basement net and man does it feel good. I don't have a simulater but felt really SOLID and fast. Def want to take it to my outdoor range this weekend that has Top Tracer.  Gotta feeling my epic flash 3 wood will be on the BST pretty soon!

That's unfortunate. I would call back and try to talk to another Rep. I've always had good luck with Brian (Forgot his last name).  Even if you have to return it it's worth trying your luck at another.

That story about CPO does blows me away. My "like new" super hybrid was new. Still had stickers and all. I agree that you should call back and see if they will make good. CPO customer service is legendary at this point.

I have gotten at least 4 club from CPO, always with new head cover and they always send new adjustment tools.

I would maybe call back and speak to someone else.  Or ask for a manager.  Seems like an oddity for CPO.

I’ve still got the 17 degree Super Hybrid (turned down to 16 degrees) still in the bag.  I’ve hit it pretty well, though I don’t think it gives me 3 wood distance.  A little longer than a normal hybrid.

For those of you that carry the 17 degree super hybrid, what are you doing with the top of your bag? Debating whether to put in another club between Super Hybrid and 4 iron (hybrid or utility iron), or look for a 3 wood (hot face or strong loft).  I can only carry one with four wedges in the bag.

I was tinkering and decided to take the shorter pro Orange shaft out of the super hybrid and try it on my 15* epic flash 3 wood head and it felt great! I'm hitting into a net so really just going off contact and feel. Maybe this shorter shaft is the key. I will def be comparing this combo against the 17* super hybrid/pro Orange combo as well next time I go to my range that has Top Tracer.

I have the stiff flex. My stock driver ss is 105ish. I thought the pro Orange felt great. Actually felt very lively and stable at the same time. To me it felt similar to diamana wb D+. It has a stiff tip. Low launch low spin.

Thanks. We are kind of similar in SS although I expect mine to grow as I get my flexible and workout again. Need to wait for something better than average to pop up on CPO again.

Found this thread because just yesterday I hit the Super Hybrid for the 2nd time (1st was "meh" about 3 months ago).

But 5.5 ? 6.0 ? For Tensei ? I though only Project X/Hzrdus used those designations.

Anywho, yesterday I hit the SH in both 17 and 20 and hit it extremely well. I'm smitten. Not so much with distance as I find it no longer than my current Ping G400 3 hybrid but very forgiving, straight and very consistent.

That said I wasn't getting what I would consider quite enough height with my puny (95 Driver) swing speed.

Too low and relying on roll and down here in SoFla is not a great recipe for success. So I was thinking of the Tensei Blue, a bit higher launching shaft,,,,,,,,,, which brought me to this post.

Also in the Orange, I hit both stiff and regular and found little to no difference. This seems to be in line with my SS and overall thoughts on shafts, of weight being more important than flex, provided you're only about 1 flex from where you "should" be.

Despite my SS I play stiff in all of my clubs. DGS300s in my irons. I find the weight "costs" me about 2-3 yards in the irons over lightweight shafts but the dispersion and consistency is more than worth it.

Anyway, unfortunately(?) the stock shaft on the SH is the Orange.

If you decide to go with the Tensei Blue please post your results. 👍

TIA

My apologies, I have been shopping clubs and shafts and had the PX flexes on my brain.

I have an extra Tensei Blue fairway shaft that I am going to cut to test the SH.  I hope to get it done this week and if so, will hit it in the simulator to see how it compares to the stock Orange.  I'll report back.

I too am around 100SS with my driver with a moderate tempo.  I am "ok" with the Orange, but looking for a bit more help with launch.

If the Blue IS a fairway shaft to begin with, no need to cut it down. Just choke down on the grip an inch (or 2 ?).

Works just as well.

This may sound weird, but other than my short irons, I struggle with distance control when "choking down."  I'll just have them cut the butt end and then my weak mind can swing away!

these are going like hot cakes. Wondering if I should settle on a 20* and then try to get a left adapter to get it down to 18 and play it like a 4w? Then I’d have three 18 deg clubs, two which I’d switch out on a rotation depending on weather (PXG DI and Sub70 3H). Anyone play that way? Anyone have a gauge If CPO will restock?

Just scored a new 17* on Callaway preowned for $190. I cannot hit a fairway off the turf. Took it for a spin today. Holy moly. Nice high draws off tee. Off turf hitting low bullets so not going to be landing softly on greens for me but will be a great club for advancing 230 yards on long holes. Pretty forgiving and love the muted feel.

Decided against cutting down the fairway shaft due to possible weight changes.  I ordered the Tensei Blue hybrid shaft that will be here either Saturday or Monday of this next week.  I will get into the simulator as soon as I get it and report back.

I bought the 20* month ago to replace my 910h. 30% off at CPO (like new). Cut the shaft down to my playing length took a little getting used to the higher ball flight. But it replaced a club I've played since new(910)

Still carrying two the 17 and 20 both turned up 2*. I am not super accurate with them but they are always solid. I hit two perfect shots today and one big pull that ended up in good shape pin high. I wish I had the game to throw darts with them but they do what I need them to do quite well.

How is your gapping on them? I heard some players say they are almost too close to each other.

I expect that is an individual thing.

For years I was playing a 16, 20 & 23 hybrid, same make and model. Got 185 carry from the 23 and 195 from the 20.

Getting older :classic_sad:, a year or 2 ago I brought them into the simulator booth and found that I was now(?) getting the 20 to 190 and the 23 to only 185.

So I dumped the 23, added another wedge and tightened the gaps in my scoring clubs.

I figure when I get my 20 Super Hybrid for around 190-195 I'll also grab a 16.5 TS2 for 210 or so. shrug.gif

The gap between them would be pretty small off of the turf mainly because of my inconsistencies. Off of the tee I see a higher flight from the 22* that gets over trees. The 17* off the tee produces lengths that would make me an internet golfer but that was before I cranked them up 2*

Done.  The Tensei Blue in this club turned out to be $$ for me.  Definitly a better feel than the Orange, higher ball flight and better carry.  For my game, it made all the difference in the world.  If I turn it down to 19*, I get about 225-230 out of it.  Now I have a gap issue I need to deal with.  I may try to find a used 23* and pop the Blue in it to cure my gap issues.  Love this club.
