For GI and SGI clubs...I can see lofts getting stronger and stronger over time and eventually, those types of sets will just consist of wedges and hybrids.  But for player's CB and blades, I really doubt they'll go that route as distance isn't an issue for better players and those types of sets will emphasize feel and conservative looks.

I am not the type that pays any attention to the clubs a guys plays. But the other day I have a very short approach shot. With the wind up I am trying to decide between PW and 52*. My playing partner is about 5 or 6 yards further hit first and I see him hit a wood of some kind to pin high. He was not a long hitter, but not wildly short. I never asked him, but my guess was it was 15 or 17 wood????

 

So yes the woods are finding their way deeper into bags.

I suspect the anchor will be about 40°. Already, club designers suggest that 40* is the cut-off for the usefulness of cavity-back irons. At 40° and above, the loft pretty well takes care of the launch.

 

And, what about the effect of standard loft tweaks, a la Ping? For i210, you can get a 7 iron in:

• Power spec = 31.5°
• Standard spec = 33.0°
• Retro spec = 35°

I would suggest he may have hit a clip hybrid out of a moon-crater lie. Did he sky it or bring in a low trajectory?

 No regular shot, I saw him hit from other similar distances with a wood. For reference it was probably 135 out, cold and windy conditions. I was guessing he had woods up to 8 iron?

 

Funny that I noticed and never bothered to look at his clubs. I tend to be in my own zone at the tee box so never thought of it.
