Is there a way to demo irons without having to pay for a fitting?

If you always hit your shots fat then mats are worthless. Can’t get the mat to fold over the ball😂

OP, more info about your game.  Handicap, current irons, misses, what your looking for blades or GI?     Obviously a fitting is great but in this day and age sometimes not a reality with Cov

If I'm dropping 1k on irons I'm going to pay for a fitting. A lot of places also wave a fitting fee if you spend over x amount of money.

If you always hit your shots fat, what is a fitting on turf going going to solve?  The data will be equally as worthless.  Fitters can tell when you're hitting fats on mats.

I literally just watched a video between fitting on mats vs turf, and the results were essentially identical. I supposed a beat up driving range mat would produce different results, but a quality mat should work just fine. At least that's what the video showed.

Turf interaction plays a huge role in fitting and is dependent on the player.  Ain't gonna get that off mats.

I live very close to a Golf Galaxy and I'm trying to figure out whether I want to use them for a formal fitting this year. The one I live near has two "bays" with GCQuads that I think are mostly for people to test out clubs. You can just waltz in with a club and nobody seems to pay attention. Those have very beat up and worn mats and I do not trust the numbers that I get from the simulator whatsoever. They do not seem well calibrated or maintained. For example, I get some wild spin numbers on what feel like good iron strikes (like 4000 RPM with an 8 iron).

They also have maybe 3 or 4 other bays that are reserved for fittings. You can't just walk up to those ones and try out a club. Those bays appear to be much more... I don't know, functional? They're well lit and more open than the dark and crummy "open for anyone" bays.

My question is this: does anyone know if the formal fittings at GG are more reliable data-wise? I'm not terribly familiar with how GCQuad works, but I imagine that things like the quality of the mat, calibration of the machine, etc. will make a difference in the data you get out of it.

I use the demo days at the local shops which are free. Just signed myself up for a Srixon "fitting" next week.

Websites will usually have them listed...

Seems like that’s going to replace demo days this year at the local chain.  Scheduled a half hour with Ping last weekend, and have a half hour with TM next week.
