Srixon ZX7 Gap Wedge

Ryan19jwu

Recommended Posts

I just ordered my set and generally prefer the set wedge, but hearing some interesting things about this one...

Not sure why they didn’t just keep it in line with the set. It’s already on order, so I own it, but I’m considering a vokey and it’s not even in my bag yet.

Anybody hit it yet? Have some feedback?

I just got a set of X7's 5 to A wedge I've seen some of the comments about it

and I'm really not sure why people are complaining  about it , the A wedge looks more like the

Srixon blades , I haven't hit mine yet as I only got them two days ago and the weather here in

NY has not been great , but I'm not worried about the A wedge at all as a matter of fact I like

the look of it a lot and I don't see it being a problem being able to hit it well , I'll do a review when I get to hit these clubs hopefully over the weekend .

I actually like that it is a blade style. I always use the same gap wedge as my sand and lob, but in this case, I’d consider that AW.

not to tempt you any (that said, I'm thinking of getting a Glide 3.0 50 just for grins. I totally love my 56 and 60 eye2 grinds.

After having it for a few months I love it. I got a Cleveland 50* to mess around with to see which I like best and the set wedge is much better on full shots for me.

I do play a lot of chips, bump and runs, etc with it and also like it there. The 50* is more versatile, but if I need something that requires a bit more touch I switch to my Vokey 54*.

Its a wedge I didn’t wanna like, but definitely do.

The approach wedge was also more blade-like in the 785s. I love it. It’s my

One of my favorite clubs to hit and warm up with. Looks and feels spectacular.

Good looking wedge. I went with the Glide 3.0 in 50 degree to match my other wedges, but just may have to get the ZX7 approach for science.

just back from a pitching session, basically about 90 yards in. Took the AW, an i210 U wedge, and my Eye2 60 (for the shorter shots). The i210 is kind of Glide 3.0-ish. Doing everything from near-full easy swing to about 3/4 swing. The AW won over the i210. I hit them both fairly well, but had a bit more feedback and I was less likely to leave it out right. Part of the is probably shaft as the i210 has an Alta which is about 10g lighter than the recoil in the AW so not a perfect A/B but it rarely is.

When I read the forums I convince myself that the zx7 isn’t right for me (I’m a bit shallow) and I should try other stuff. Then I get other stuff like the i210 or Apex 21 and realize that the only issue is my swing consistency. The zx7 has beat the other test clubs so far. Maybe I’ll learn, but probably not 🙃

The good news is that about half the shots ended up within 10’ of the pin so practice is actually working. Funny that…

I'm taking mine to the range for the first time today. Also got the new full faces and will decide on which route to go

Usually not a matching Gw guy, but it Def passes the eye look in the bag

And first range it will remain in the bag. Kept throwing darts from 115ish.

And if you're curious the new full faces are awesome. But as I use the Gw for dull shots only.. The zx7 will stay in

Any other long term reviews of the ZX7 AW?

Thinking of pulling the trigger now that I have ZX7 6-PW and am absolutely in love!

I’ve been gaming Zipcore wedges this season and have tried the 50, 52, 54, and 58. Love the feel, but I’m finding them extremely high spin and have lost a lot of distance in those wedge spots.

How is the spin and distance in the ZX7 AW for you guys?

@BallerNate I purchased a 50* zipcore to give them both a try and ended up back with the A wedge. I prefer the lower flight and spin of the Zx7 to the zipcore on my full shots.

I generally use the A for full shots and a lot of bump and run/pitching and find it easier to keep low for that as well. Found it much easier to hit for the full shots and especially if I’m knocking it down into some wind(just got back from Bandon yesterday and it was perfect there).

The Zipcore is more versatile for sure if you like to use it a ton for chipping or open it up, but I use my 54* for most of that if I need it.

Awesome, thanks for the detailed feedback…that’s exactly what I was looking for!

That’s exactly what I’ve found with the Zipcore’s in 50* and 52*, for whatever reason they launch up to the moon for me and spin way too much.

Love them in 54* and 58*, but just can’t get the GW Zipcores to do what I want them to do.

Thanks for bumping.  Is it still forged like the rest of the set or is it cast?  Are the face grooves like the iron set or like a wedge?

My pleasure! Great questions, would be curious about those answers too.

It’s a forged club and feels great. The grooves change on each club through the set and to me it is wedge like, but not exactly like a speciality wedge. I feel that it’s definitely for those that primarily use it for full shots and little chips that run. That being said, it is low bounce and can be used elsewhere.

Perfect, thanks!  Currently have a 52* Jaws that is starting to wear.  I play it full and 3/4 shots so I'm looking for the replacement to be a set club that has more iron-like grooves that'll last longer than specialty wedge grooves.

I echo most of what's been said so far so not much to add.

I've always got the set AW if available with my iron sets and the ZX7 AW is hands down the best set AW I've ever had! Absolutely love it! Blends perfectly in the bag and again I agree with all th positive things that have already been said about looks, full shots and pitch/ chip shot. Probably my favorite club now. I also play Zipcore's for reference.

They do in zx7. Only in Japan though. I would order one if I could. Not sure if anyone has any inside tricks on how to get one?

Tour Spec Golf shows them as an add on to a set so I contacted them about just the single SW.

This was the reply if anyone is interested. You can order the SW separately via order thru email with what you want, SW/shaft/grip, they will send a PayPal invoice to place the order. They said approximately $215 shipped.

Just use the contact us on their website.
