Quiet driver please !

Moving from the Titleist 910 line I found all the heads on the market made really unpleasant sounds. I went to a PGA Tour event with my father that summer and heard the compressed, muted thwack of a tour player pumping a driver. I chocked some of it up to the quality of their strike, but also figured buying a tour issue head couldn't hurt.

 

I was right. Tour issue heads just sounded differently and because of that seemed to perform better, too. I then realized that was mostly due to face angle, lie angle and hotmelt. I had M2 and M4 tour issue driver heads that sounded fantastic and hit alongside retail models in the bags of friends, confirmed this to be the case.

 

Starting with the Sim, which sounded OK-ish out of the box, I've now just had my clubmaker hotmelt the head. $25 is a lot easier than scouring the 'bay (after a couple drinks) and shelling out the extra $200-$300. 

 

What I'd do is go on Ebay and buy an M2 tour head and see what happens. Chances are you won't mind keeping it around.

If you can find it the Cobra Zl Encore was fairly quiet.

Don't even look at the G30 LS.... was hot melted and would still make ears ring.  Great driver tho lol!

Another vote for the Cobra F9.  Very underrated driver.

Love my F9 driver.  Had to get rid of the Cobra Connect/Arccos grip though--it was making a buzzing noise.  Now the driver is nice and quiet.

Thanks for all your replies. I've Heard that TM has muted / low volume driver. Have you tried the SIM max ?

I saw that it has been mentioned twice already but I can't say enough about the M5, by far the best driver I have played and I was a full blown Callaway fan boy before I switched. It's got a nice muted sound and it smokes the ball.

You mute your club with hot melt and you still have 3 unmuted drivers in your 4some. What's a guy to do?

Mizuno MP 650.  Beautiful, classic and VERY muted.  I've still got two of them.  They're still amazing.

Yep, TM M5 or Cobra F9. My choice would be M5 by a whisker.

Instead of making two completely pointless posts on this, why dont you offer some suggestions that might help? The op has said they have hearing issues and need a quiet driver - there is nothing wrong with that request.

 

My suggestions would be f9, king ltd, or vapor flex 440.

Adding hot melt to most drivers will make it sound more muted.  The only difference between a retail head and tour issue head is face angle, added hot melt and they test the COR.  That's it.  It's not worth paying the extra 200+bucks unless you are looking for specific specs.  Even then you can adjust face angle/loft with the adjustable sleeves these days.  I've had several tour issue heads in the past and they were useful for my swing back in the day because of the fixed hosel and because they didn't have the adjustable weights hence hot melt.

M6 was pretty good when I tested it. Ended up with G410 for forgiveness reasons however.

Bring hot melt with you in your bag and politely ask the other 3 players if they would mind if you hooked ‘em up free of charge!… 😂 

 

Seriously though. Anything but a Ping driver would be a good place to start! 1st time I hit the G410 MAX 🤮 TM drivers definitely have that muted sound.

The new TourEdge c721 may be a nice option. Sounds solid, not loud.

I want my driver to be loud so it makes my swing sound faster than it actually is.

 

Jokes (kind of) aside, just find a head that works for you and have it hot melted if you can. You'll get the best of both worlds with it instead of compromising on one that you may not really like other than the sound.

Sim max is very muted and quiet.
