Distance and straight issue isn’t that much more of an issue than just a couple or even five years ago - when he won 3 majors, Tour Championship, etc. He has skills.

Yes, he does have the tools to win again.  He's more crooked off the tee in recent years though since making swing changes.  He was never this crooked off the tee when he first came out of college and won all those tournaments on tour.

The argument from both sides (people that think Spieth will return to winning championships and people who don’t) is that Jordan has always been a poor driver of the golf ball. One says he can still win hitting his driver like this because he is magical and was always short and crooked. The other says he has always been a poor driver so it’s just a matter of time before he came back down to earth. Both are wrong. He was a good driver for a number of years and while he was a good driver he won a ton of tournaments because he is the best scrambler on tour. So any bad drive he does hit he recovers. But when he drives the ball terrible like he has the last couple years it is too much for him to overcome even being an amazing scrambler.

Very true.  He's still not the amazing putter he once was although he's still very good.  As I have stated above, his driving accuracy is now worst than ever.

I can’t believe I am reading that a guy who shot 61 on the weekend in a tour event was fluky and the TV guy calling it a great round is an idiot.

Welcome to GolfWRX!

Well, at least what it has become...

I said he was an idiot for constantly saying Jordan's back, not because he had a great round.

Hard to believe both Jordan and Xander didn’t avoid the water on 17. Terrible mistakes.

Well he didn't exactly implode, in fact he hung in there fairly well, but the putter was a tad cool and he really has to IMO, get rid of that hook. Two hooks into the water on two birdie holes was just pain full to watch. Yesterday's 61 had folks all "yeah he's back" but in reality, no he's far from it. Did he have a major step forward? Not really, for he was able to scramble enough on a course that lent itself to do so and the putter was muy fuego. Shooting over par on the final round is not the corner stone for winning most tour venues. Maybe, hopefully he takes something mind altering positive from this and makes needed adjustment(s). We shall see the next time he tees it up.............

you have to be intentionally ignorant to say this wasn’t a major step forward for him. I had a longer reply typed out explaining why but I deleted it, it wouldn’t make any difference anyway.

While I agree this was a positive step for him. I'll stick with my post from last night. He is in no way back!!!!

Perhaps reading comprehension is not really your forte, but your still allowed an opinion, even if it's intentionally obtuse.

large chasm between “ yes he’s back !“ and “ no he didn’t take a major step forward “.

this was absolutely a major step forward.   Notice on the two water balls he made par on both. Still losing 2 shots to the field. But not an implosion.  I’d call 1 over par stuck in neutral.

befpre we watched him miss 12 or more greens a round.  Now it was just the driver.  It’s literally as simple as not trying to hit a draw for a while.  Stop with the hook.    He knows that.  It will be obvious now.

back ?  Of course not.  Back will be another major.  But step forward ?  Yes , it’s Undeniable.

Blade I thought it took some “gumption” for him to step up on 15 and 17 and just let it go. I know the results were balls in the water, but just the day before he bailed out right coming down the stretch on 17 and 18. Both of those shots Sunday he committed to the shot, and even though they were both left of his target, both could have stayed up with just a bit of good fortune. I thought his commitment to the swing was a big step forward, if he had bailed out right on 15 and 17 he makes 2 pars anyway and is a step further back mentally.

It’s certainly was.  On Saturday he certainly bailed out on purpose. Made no attempt at even hitting the fairway. and why not try it ?  It was mathematically over with already without some real magic.  So what’s there to lose ?

as a guy who once hated driver. And now rarely hit a 3 wood ,  He can conquer this. If I can he can.  Like me. He has to decide to do it.  Until.  Then work the problem.  Period.

From your post:  “Did he have a major step forward? Not really”.

So an opinion followed with specific observation(s) is relegated to "you have to be intentionally ignorant" but your rebuttal to reading comprehension is the above?..........that's all you managed to glean from the original post?...........sad, extremely sad....

Now to all who have jumped onto the major step forward and he had "gumption"...........So being in contention and at that particular moment in time only 1 or 2 strokes off the lead, he steps up and proceeds to hit the two shots that have been the bane of his problem for the last couple of years. Saturday he bailed right and made birdie(s) and if in my ever so not humble opinion, if he played smart golf on those shots, that to me would have been that major step forward. Instead he went with his ego instead of his head and took himself out of contention. Now all of us are offering nothing more than opinions in a discussion, but when an insulting remark is the mainstay of a counterpoint, then it's no longer a valid discussion.
