Would love your advice on what ball(s) to explore

I'm a 7.x/8.x that likes to hit it straight but does like to work the ball a bit.

I used to love the B330s (long, straight, great in wind, appropriate spin for all circumstances) but once they moved away from it I got a little lost.   I play the TP5x right now because it's quite long and awesome in wind but I do tend to get a decent mount of bounce/rollout, perhaps a bit too much.

Driver swing speed these days is probably around 103-105.  I don't like to swing hard with irons so I can control distance...150 is either a hard 8 or an easy 7.   I game MP20 MMCs and they are so awesome but just won the ZX5s on here and I think that these will be my gamers.

I feel like I should try the TP5, thoughts?  I tried Chrome Soft but wow it really just didn't go that far.  I am probably one of the rare folks that DONT want to suck back wedges but want hop and stop.  Any current Bstone that have the characteristics of the 2014 (I think it was) B330s?

Anyway - appreciate any and all input.  Thanks all.

Bridgestone Tour BX or Tour BXS depending on the spin you are looking for.  Best balls I've ever hit.  Both go straight for me.  Both excellent in the wind.  BX just stops.  BXS has some sauce.

Tour BX.

Don't believe the 108+ on the box, I might have that swing speed at times, but max.

Used to do b330s, went TP5x for a while, but just bought a few dozen more 2020 BX feels great off the tee and hop+stop+tap in... Maybe not as workable as 330s, but meh that's the BXS and playing partner zips them back whilst living in other fairway with slice 🤣

Totally agree. I think Bridgestone are doing themselves a disservice by still using the swing speed ranges as a guide for choosing one of their balls. Then again, marketing has never been their strong point.

@Torrey4Life I would echo the other suggestions made. Go with the Tour B X or RX.

A viable but probably an unpopular choice in among the WRXers is Maxfli Tour X.  It has been a good choice for me in looking for a winter/spring ball.  Gets decent spin on approach shots and is not a marshmallow.  Just bought a couple more dozen for use during the regular season, on sale with a GG coupon, of course.

Sounds like you're looking for higher compression mid to high spin balls. Based on your swing speed you could go with either B XS or B RXS. If you're looking outside of Bridgestone, Srixon Z-Star XV and Snell MTB-X could be good options. There's also this little known ball called the Pro V1x 🙂

Haha - I do like those but I'm tired of people walking off with my balls!  It sadly happens when I use Titleists - the less popular balls people tend to leave alone.

Actually, These have received really good reviews.  These are worth a try.  either the Tour or the Tour X.  If I buy any more balls my wife will have mine in a jar.  I have boxes of all the "ones I want to try" all over the house.

You have to think sleeves not dozens. Most of us forget the golf course pro shops have plenty of sleeves of balls to try out.

I think i found your utopia golf ball and her name is..... bridgestone tour BX.   It will be as long (bit longer) than the tp5x but with the one hop and stop performance with thr wedges and short game.   Its an incredible ball.

Okay so holy crap - how the heck did they ELIMINATE side spin?  I was REALLY not expecting that - ended up in some bad spots because I was expecting more draw or cut!  Quite intriguing!

Surprised no one has jumped on that side spin comment yet, but BX is a great ball. Have you found it to be longer than your previous? Was for me, but I never got used to the putter feel, otherwise I may have stuck with it. Regarding the side spin, I think the prevailing wisdom here is that its just less spin overall, not just less side spin, since that would be difficult to do with a symmetrical ball.

If you like the TP5X but want a little more spin, try the Bridgestone Tour B X. It's the best ball I have ever played.

So honestly I don't know how the BX goes so straight.  I feel almost like it's cheating/I need something a little more workable.  I kept trying to hit little cuts or little draws and like...the line it starts on is the line it holds (although it did seem to get beat up in the wind a little more than the TP5x).

Also - yeah this ball is long.

It feels wild to me to say that a ball is too straight (and how did they make it longer than the TP5x??) but here we are.  I assume the BXS is easier to move around but also has larger misses?

EDIT: Anyone else feel like you have to hit the BX harder when putting?  My last round everything came up short, which is hard to do at Torrey.

Okay yeah you also had the putter thing going on - did it just end up shorter for you or what was it?

@Torrey4Life Yes that was partly it, speed control in general really, but would definitely leave putts short and then over compensate. I prefer a clicky feel for speed control, where this has a softer, less responsive putting feel.

I'm late to this party, but my suggestion would have been (and is) to look at the Srixon ZStar or the XV.  I think rather highly of the Srixon golf balls.

The TP5 is worth a look, as well.  Used them for the better part of the last couple months of 202 season, found them quite good.  Excellent short game spin, good overall ball.

I'm a big fan of the Duo Professional, think it's worth a look.  It's better in the wind than most, and I found when I'd switched away from it that it's straighter than some other balls I've used.  Some don't like the extra soft feel, but I good with it, possibly due to my being a former Maxfli Revolution / A10 / M3 player, as well as having spent significant time in the last half dozen season using wound balls (HT-100 or Elite).

Okay so, last Fri - the straightness of the BX was awesome.   Torrey South twilight, 3 birds on the front which for me was nice.  When I hit good shots I was close and I made the short putts.

However, I also had THREE 3-putt bogeys.  The putting feel was super off on longer putts, the ball just seemed to die like 3-5 feet into my lag putt.  I literally left everything short.  The putter feel was that I just had no idea how the balls was going to come off or how far it was going to roll.  Has anyone had this experience with the BX?  Is there a BX variant that has the straight flight wood/iron characteristic but is a little more responsive with the putter?

@Torrey4Life Having played all the current Bridgestone Tour models, unfortunately I think your answer is no. I think you and I are in a similar boat, being defectors of the TP5X camp looking for just the right mix.  For what it's worth I've ended up in the Snell camp with a lean to the Black.  Great putting feel and a lot of the same ball speed and long iron benefits as TP5X, but with a touch more bite on approach and around the greens.  Really an amazing all around ball and I think many folks that were disenchanted by the 19-20 TP5X may like it.  (Then again they may like the '21 TP5X even better, guess we'll all know more about that soon!)

No brainer.  Pro V1x.  TP5 might not be as far and it will fly on a lower trajectory than the TP5x.

Ooooo the A10! My favorite ball ever, that zingy snappy zippy feel.  At least while it was still round. Ha! Full agreement on the  Wilson duo Professional very underrated, great wind/cold ball.

On a somewhat related note has anyone done a ball fitting that they would recommend? I heard pga superstore does them but curious a best way to determine with data what golf ball is best? I know what category golf ball I fit into (lower spinning), but can’t definitively say if the ProV1 vs TP5 vs. the new TP5X is best for my game.
