Why is my stuff late? This is a reason...

This picture was taken by our store owner in Carlsbad who is visiting the OEMs this week.  In the circle are container ships are out in the Pacific waiting to dock and be offloaded.  So it's still slow in Asia to build anything, THEN there aren't enough workers and truck drivers to offload them and deliver anything like before, so it's very slow.  It's not just golf components obviously, but this is what the OEMs have to stare at everyday.  This is nuts!

That is amazing.  I lived on the coast near Carlsbad for over 20 years and never saw anything like that.

Half the world away, we are hearing so many people complaining about their orders taking too long and complaining about the manufacturers...because yeah, the manufacturers want to take too long to get their products out there and make money!

Factories, including golf foundries are running well below capacity in China currently. Its not just golf, its pretty much everything else that's made in China and shipped to your local Walmart. It just shows how Covid has effected China's capacity to meet demands alot more than they have led the world to believe. Our pro shop hasn't been able to keep a consistent stock of simple golf items such as tees, spikes, etc in stock since Summer. Combine that w/fewer dock workers in the ports able to work due to Covid related issues in Cali plus Union restrictions due to health & safety contract agreements, and you have a perfect storm. This won't be resolved for some time, especially in Cali where Covid is seemingly always surging. It's going to be a long ride, so be patient.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Back when the Callaway Hawkeye driver was current tech, I played golf with a guy who owned a small machine shop. They won a bid to make some of the driver heads.

The Hawkeye was among the first clubs to have a screw-in sole weight.

This guy said that Callaway provided exactly *one* weight to use for testing the fit in the head they made. They didn’t want any bootleg driver heads going missing from his shop.

I think that’s truly a myth.   I mean. We have a case study to look back on.  Right ? I think the actual issue is environmental regulation.  and I’m not at all advocating for a blanket rollback on that.  But The Chinese don’t have a magic foundry wand that somehow makes it free to operate.  Not even with kid labor.

I took this picture two days ago looking at the port of Long Beach.  Same thing.  Ships all stacked up and slow going.  Never ever saw anything like this before.

Yep.  I went to go visit my uncle a couple days ago for the 2nd round of vaccine.  He lives right next to the marina in long beach.  That's pretty much what I saw out at sea.  I can't wait until the pandemic is over.

But it is a machine shop, could he have just machined another weight? Just sayin'

Yes I do know that a bunch of it is environmental, but there is a reason everything is made there, and that reason in so many cases isn't going to be environmental.  The case study would be looking at company profits as they moved off-shore.

As China's middle class starts to further rise, it will price out parts in China and you will likely see a shift further South and into India.  But this may not happen for a bit, but it is going to happen unless the jobs come back to work to right states where employees have no say and are basically going to be 3rd ish soon if not already.
